Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher: Sensorimotor Neuroscience at the Donders Centre for Cognition
We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher with an interest and expertise in building computational models of body representation, technological augmentation, and embodiment. The goal of the project is to uncover the neurocognitive principles underlying the embodiment of finger-extending exoskeletons. To what extent do internal representations of the body and technology (e.g. exoskeletal fingers) fuse into a single representation? To make headway on answering this fundamental question, we will use a variety of neuroscientific approaches (behaviour and M/EEG) and analytical tools (computational modelling, machine learning).
You will be part of the NOW VIDI Grant ’Human 2.0: A neurocognitive framework for upgrading the body’. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will design novel behavioural and neuroimaging paradigms (EEG) to measure internal representations of the body and tools (specifically, finger-extending exoskeletons), as well as their fusion. In this project, we endeavour to understand the fusion process at a neurocomputational level. You will apply Bayesian modelling to behavioural data to characterise the somatosensory and multisensory transformations underlying fusion. You will then use machine learning approaches to identify neural signatures of their implementation in EEG signals. The overall goal of these experiments is to gain a better understanding of the embodiment of technology at a computational and neural level. There will be close collaboration with other members of the team, including colleagues throughout the Donders Institute. Project management and mentoring (MSc and BSc) will also be part of your responsibilities.
Deadline : 06 September 2024
(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher Television Studies and Literature Education
The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures is seeking a postdoctoral researcher (0.7 FTE, 9 months) to work on the project ’Streaming Readers: Educational Potentials of Reader Representations in High School Dramas’.
The Streaming Readers project is funded by an XS grant within the NWO Open Competition. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be responsible for the execution of this project, working in collaboration with the project leader and a student assistant. The project focuses on the representation of reading characters in popular high school series such as Heartstopper, Ginny & Georgia, Sex Education, and Euphoria. You will conduct a semiotic analysis of how reading is portrayed in these series. This analysis will then form the basis for focus group discussions with teachers and students in secondary education, where you will investigate the extent to which images of reading characters can be effectively utilised in contemporary literature education. Your findings will be documented in a scholarly article in literacy studies, co-authored with the project leader.
Deadline : 08 September 2024

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher: Growing Cancer Organoids in Synthetic Matrices
The ultimate goal is to establish a novel organoid platform for in vitro cancer modelling, personalised medicine and biobanking of patient-derived organoids for drug screenings or toxicology assays. As a proof of concept in this KWF-funded project, we aim to establish a PIC-based head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC) ORGAnoid maTRIX platform, called ORGATRIX.
This project is a close collaboration between Dr Paul Kouwer’s group at Radboud University and Dr Marleen Ansems’ group at the Radboud university medical center. As a postdoctoral researcher working on this project, you will be expected to work in both labs, which are conveniently located across the street from each other.
In the Kouwer Lab, you will prepare and modify PIC gels using protocols optimised for scientists without a strong materials chemistry background. Organoid cultures will be grown in these different PIC gels in the Ansems Lab. The team will hold biweekly meetings to exchange information, monitor progress and prioritise tasks.
Deadline : 29 August 2024
