(04) PhD Positions – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: Doctoral Researcher (f/m/d), Scientific Staff Member (f/m/d) in the Field of High-Temperature Superconductors
Your responsibilities include the following tasks:
- Identification and analysis of promising high-temperature superconductor (HTS) materials for the construction of highly sensitive EPR resonators. This includes investigating commercially available superconductors as well as materials provided by cooperation partners at KIT. The task involves analyzing their electromagnetic properties, loss mechanisms, and practical limitations such as fabrication, cooling requirements, and long-term stability under experimental conditions.
- Conducting extensive FEM simulations for the development and optimization of HTS-based EPR resonators. The focus is on maximizing sensitivity by increasing the Q-factor while minimizing dielectric and conductor-related losses.
- Development of an experimental platform for integrating and testing HTS resonators in EPR and NMR spectroscopy environments. This includes the design of resonator holders, coupling mechanisms, interfaces for cryogenic cooling, and RF connections. After fabrication, the resonators will be characterized at existing X-band and high-field spectrometers at KIT, and sensitivity benchmarks will be established.
- Participation in lectures, including conducting related exercises, participating in practical courses, and supervising students.
- Publication of research results.
Deadline : 11.01.2026
(05) PhD Positions – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: PhD positions (f/m/d) within the Research Training Group 2561 “MatCom-ComMat: Materials Compounds from Composite Materials for Applications in Extreme Conditions”
The focus of the RTG is on the development, characterization and modelling of novel, multi-phase composite systems capable of withstanding temperatures substantially beyond 1300 °C and harsh environmental conditions (e.g., oxidative, corrosive, erosive atmospheres) as far as mechanical behavior, environmental resistance and durability are concerned. This is achieved by combining metallic/intermetallic alloys based on refractory metals and polymer-derived ceramic nanocomposites.
The doctoral researchers are supervised and trained by highly qualified scientists and benefit from their complementary expertise through extended stays at the partner institutions. Stays abroad at internationally renowned academic institutions are also supported.
Deadline : 15.01.2026

PhD position summary/title: PhD Position (f/m/d) part time 75%
The rise of perovskite thin-film solar cells in recent years has opened up an exciting route to advance the power conversion efficiency of established photovoltaic technologies. For the first time, a wide bandgap thin-film PV technology is available at low cost that can be combined with established low bandgap semiconductors, such as crystalline Si, CIGS thin-films or organic solar cells in a multijunction tandem device with the potential of surpassing efficiencies of established technologies. However, key scientific and technological challenges need to be overcome to harvest this potential. At KIT, we engage in this worldwide endeavour and research the fundamentals, novel materials and processes for perovskite photovoltaics.

About Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany –Official Website
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is a public research university and one of the largest research and educational institutions in Germany. KIT was created in 2009 when the University of Karlsruhe (Universität Karlsruhe), founded in 1825 as a public research university and also known as the “Fridericiana”, merged with the Karlsruhe Research Center , which had originally been established in 1956 as a national nuclear research center
KIT is a member of the TU9, an incorporated society of the largest and most notable German institutes of technology. As part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative KIT was one of three universities which were awarded excellence status in 2006 In the following “German Excellence Strategy” KIT was awarded as one of eleven “Excellence Universities” in 2019. KIT is among the leading technical universities in Germany and Europe and established the first German faculty for computer science in 1972.
As of 2018, six Nobel laureates are affiliated with KIT. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is well known for many inventors and entrepreneurs who studied or taught there, including Heinrich Hertz, Karl Friedrich Benz and the founders of SAP SE.
