(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Computing
In this position you will carry out research in quantum machine learning and quantum information science. Your research will focus on the development and applications of quantum machine learning algorithms, but also other topics can be explored depending on your interests. You will get to conduct high quality research independently, and to work as an active member of the Micro and Quantum Systems research group. The duration of the postdoctoral position is two years. Preferable starting time is September 2023, but can be negotiated.
Deadline : 31.8.2023
(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher working on simulations of Dynamic Ground Exchange with the Material Point Method
Your first task will be to replicate with Granular Material Point Method the observed soil behaviour during the impact compaction both at the laboratory scale and field scale. Later, you will use the validated simulation framework to investigate the use of impact compaction in a new environment, as well as check how to reduce the impact of vibrations on the neighbourhood. Based on your research you should be able to give updated guidelines for the design and application of dynamic compaction and dynamic soil exchange. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of the Material Point Method and numerical algorithms, as well as to other research related to soil improvement.
(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: HIIT: Postdoctoral and Research Fellow positions
HIIT Research Fellow positions support the career development of excellent advanced researchers who already have some postdoctoral research experience. While HIIT Research Fellows have a designated supervisor at University of Helsinki or Aalto, they are expected to develop their own research agenda and to gain the skills necessary to lead their own research group in the future. HIIT Research Fellows should strengthen Helsinki’s ICT research community either through collaboration or by linking ICT research with another scientific discipline. In either case, excellence and potential for impact are the primary criteria for HIIT Research Fellow funding. The contract period is up to five years in length.
(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Plant Root Biomechanics
A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Living Matter group of Prof. Matilda Backholm at the Department of Applied Physics at Aalto University. Our research focuses on developing new cutting-edge techniques to probe the forces and flow in living systems, such as microscopic swimming organisms and actively growing plant roots. Our research is interdisciplinary and curiosity-driven, and we work in an inclusive and collaborative manner.
Deadline : 31.7.2023
(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Spatial Data Science and Sustainable Mobility
The position is for a period of 2 years, with a mid-term review, and should start during the autumn 2023 or 1st January 2024 at the latest. The position is intended for full-time work, and we expect the candidate to work at the premises of Aalto University. The selected individual will work as part of a research team with approx. 10 members, and the work is supervised by Assistant Professor Henrikki Tenkanen. The position involves research visits and collaboration with top European universities, such as University College London (UK) and OsloMet (Norway), that enables the hired researcher to expand his/her professional networks. The successful applicant will have the possibility to cooperate with world-class researchers, participate in open-source GIS tool development targeted for practitioners, and attend scientific conferences and meetings. Moreover, the research group provides strong support and academic freedom, with possibilities for transdisciplinary collaboration with national and international partners from academia, industry, and public sector.
(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researchers in Quantum Nanomechanics
to carry out experimental research on different projects related to quantum micromechanical systems. In our team, we investigate how mechanical oscillators can be utilized for fundamental research probing quantum mechanics in massive systems, or for usage in quantum information processing. In our research, we have demonstrated quantum entanglement between two micromechanical oscillators realized as vibrating aluminum drumheads [Nature 556, 478 (2018), Science 372, 625 (2021)].
About Aalto University, Finland –Official Website
Aalto University is a university located in Espoo, Finland. It was established in 2010 as a merger of three major Finnish universities: the Helsinki University of Technology (established 1849), the Helsinki School of Economics (established 1904), and the University of Art and Design Helsinki (established 1871). The close collaboration between the scientific, business and arts communities is intended to foster multi-disciplinary education and research. The Finnish government, in 2010, set out to create a university that fosters innovation, merging the three institutions into one.
The university is composed of six schools with close to 17,500 students and 4,000 staff members, making it Finland’s second largest university. The main campus of Aalto University is located in Otaniemi, Espoo. Aalto University Executive Education operates in the district of Töölö, Helsinki. In addition to the Greater Helsinki area, the university also operates its Bachelor’s Programme in International Business in Mikkeli and the Metsähovi Radio Observatory in Kirkkonummi.
Aalto University’s operations showcase Finland’s experiment in higher education. The Aalto Design Factory, Aalto Ventures Program and Aalto Entrepreneurship Society (Aaltoes), among others, drive the university’s mission for a radical shift towards multidisciplinary learning and have contributed substantially to the emergence of Helsinki as a hotbed for startups.Aaltoes is Europe’s largest and most active student run entrepreneurship community that has founded major concepts such as the Startup Sauna accelerator program and the Slush startup event.
The university is named in honour of Alvar Aalto, a prominent Finnish architect, designer and alumnus of the former Helsinki University of Technology, who was also instrumental in designing a large part of the university’s main campus in Otaniemi.
