(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Researcher in Accelerated Thin Film Development & Materials Informatics
Materials science and technology are our passion. With our cutting-edge research, Empa’s around 1,100 employees make essential contributions to the well-being of society for a future worth living. Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain.
The opportunity: Contribute to groundbreaking research on UV-resilient transparent conductive materials for photovoltaic technologies. You’ll work at the exciting intersection of experimental materials science and materials informatics, collaborating with CSEM and EPFL in a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) Bridge Project.
Postdoc summary/title: PostDoc postition – Characterization and multi-physics simulation of 2D and 3D laser metals processing
The candidate will study physical phenomena such as internal laser beam reflection, beam trapping in powder streams and powder beds, multi-material dissolution dynamics, keyhole formation, thermo-capillary flow, evaporation-induced recoil pressure, phase transitions (melting, vaporization, solidification), vapor plume formation dynamics, and residual stress analysis. The objective will be to investigate these phenomena using simulation tools and via sophisticated experiments. Besides, the candidate is expected to supervise BSc-/MSc students or semester interns.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc / scientist position in the field of mid-IR frequency comb spectroscopy
Dual-comb spectroscopy (DCS) is a rapidly evolving techniques opening up new fields of applications. Our aim is to leverage on quantum cascade laser (QCL) based DCS and develop a spectrometer with unprecedented spectral resolution, sensitivity, and speed. Together with our partners, we will apply this instrument to study the ro-vibrational nature of chiral molecules in the gas phase.
This interdisciplinary project is funded by Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Innovation Promotion. It lies at the interface of fundamental research and science-based innovation and involves close collaboration with our partners at ETH (Prof. F. Merkt and Prof. M. Quack) and ZHAW (Prof. J. Stohner).
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Scientist for Radiocarbon monitoring to partition fossil and biogenic CO2 emissions
The Laboratory for Air Pollution / Environmental Technology focuses on the emissions, transport, and fate of anthropogenic air pollutants and greenhouse gases. Our research provides the scientific ground for most effectively reducing their impact by assessing and driving technical solutions supporting emission reduction, and by guiding decision makers in the field of environmental politics.
Radiocarbon analysis in carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most direct tool to distinguish between renewable sources and fossil fuel combustion, and to support mitigation efforts towards carbon neutrality. We will establish the first analytical tool for continuous radiocarbon analysis in atmospheric CO2. The instrumental setup will comprise a SCAR radiocarbon spectrometer and a home-built QCLAS spectrometer for 13CO2/12CO2, both coupled to an automated preconcentration device to separate and purify CO2 from air.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position in Bacteria and Materials Interactions 80 – 100%
The Bacteria and Materials Interactions Group at the Biointerfaces Laboratory is offering a Postdoc position focused on the development of advanced antimicrobial coatings. This project aims to tackle the growing challenge of infections caused by resistant bacteria through designing innovative, non-toxic and durable antimicrobial solutions. This highly interdisciplinary project will be conducted in collaboration with several Swiss companies, offering a potential translation of scientific advancements into practical applications.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Metamorphic Aerial Robotics
The Laboratory of Sustainability Robotics (LSR) is a world-leading group with research focus on the development of novel, biologically inspired flying robots for distributed sensing in air and water and autonomous robotic construction for digital infrastructure systems. The lab is based on a jointly funded Professorship by Empa and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and is specialised in robot design, hardware development and multi-modal robot mobility.
