(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc Wavefront shaping microscopy and photoacoustics

The Prevedel group in Heidelberg is seeking a postdoc with an applied physics and/or engineering background to work on advanced imaging techniques for applications in biology and neuroscience. In particular, the candidate will work on the development of new optical instrumentation with a particular emphasis on optical wavefront shaping as well as photo-acoustic sensing. Additionally, the successful candidate will team-up with chemists as well as various biologists to apply the advances to current scientific questions.

This project is part of a recently funded Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative Deep-Tissue grant, and performed in close collaboration with the Deo group at EMBL, the Gigan/deAguiar  groups in Paris and the Stiel lab in Munich. The successful candidate is expected to take a strong lead on his/her project and start to develop independent ideas. Our multi-disciplinary lab provides an innovative, dynamic and constructive working environment for this purpose. More information about the Prevedel group can be found here: www.prevedel.embl.de

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Computational Analysis of Environmental Microbiome Data

We are seeking a highly motivated computational biologist to join the research group of Peer Bork within the Molecular Systems Biology Unit as a postdoctoral fellow. This bioinformatics group works on a wide range of topics with a current focus on microbiome analysis in diverse ecosystems. Our team consists of researchers with varied backgrounds, including bioinformatics, metagenomic sequence analysis, and marine ecology. If you are studying the microbiome via environmental modelling, soil ecology, biogeochemistry, ecophysiology, systems biology, or related approaches, please apply!

Within the TREC (Traversing European Coastlines) project, we have gathered more than 3000 soil, sediment and water samples, and are currently analysing the resulting microbiome and multi-omics data. Additional data have been gathered within the EU-funded BIOcean5D project, where we are analysing global biodiversity patterns, and in our efforts to integrate public metagenomic data (e.g. in the SPIRE database) and the corresponding contextual data.

Deadline : 31/03/2025

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Ewald Group

The Ewald Lab at EMBL-EBI is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to analyse a first-of-its-kind toxicology dataset. As members of the OASIS Consortium, which brings together 40 pharmaceutical/agrochemical companies, government agencies, academic labs and non-profit organizations, we aim to develop novel approaches for predicting liver toxicity to reduce reliance on animal testing and increase the accuracy of safety assessment. The dataset includes high-dimensional readouts including Cell Painting, transcriptomics, and proteomics. For one example of our early research directions, see this recent preprint.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow – Saez-Rodriguez Group

As a postdoctoral fellow in the Saez Rodriguez group, you will develop and apply computational methods and tools to study cellular organisation, gene regulation and  intra- and intercellular cell-cell communication to extract disease mechanisms from single-cell and spatially resolved multi-omic data.

You will work within an international and interdisciplinary group of scientists to better understand and treat human diseases (for more information visit www.saezlab.org). The goal of the Saez Rodriguez group is to acquire a functional understanding of the deregulation of signalling networks in disease and to apply this knowledge to develop novel therapeutics. We focus on cancer, auto-immune and fibrotic disease. Towards this goal, we integrate big (‘Omics’) data with mechanistic molecular knowledge into statistical and machine learning methods, and we share our tools as free open-source packages. We collaborate with academic as well as industrial partners.

EMBL-EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and it is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. EMBL-EBI provides freely available data from life science experiments, performs basic research in computational biology and offers an extensive user training programme, supporting researchers in academic and industry.

About The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Germany – Official Website

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a molecular biology research institution supported by 27 member states, two prospect states, and one associate member state. EMBL was created in 1974 and is an intergovernmental organization funded by public research money from its member states. Research at EMBL is conducted by approximately 85 independent groups covering the spectrum of molecular biology. The list of independent groups at EMBL can be found at www.embl.org. The Laboratory operates from six sites: the main laboratory in Heidelberg, and sites in Hinxton (the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), in England), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Rome (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain). EMBL groups and laboratories perform basic research in molecular biology and molecular medicine as well as train scientists, students, and visitors. The organization aids in the development of services, new instruments and methods, and technology in its member states. Israel is the only full member state located outside Europe.
