The Critical Material Institute within the Ames National Laboratory , is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research on the synthesis of organic substances related to critical material separation.

This position will perform research to develop methods that enable the recycling and reuse of critical materials from different waste types, minimize environmental impacts of recycling and improve recycling economics. Examples of materials focus for recycling and reuse include rare earth elements, platinum group metals, transition metal alloys and alkali earth metals. The position will work on chemical synthesis of new materials and will aid in materials characterization. The incumbent will help in training and supporting students and in maintaining laboratory spaces, hygiene, and safety policies.

Additionally, the position will help in writing scientific publications, evaluating current laboratory procedures/processes; and implementing new practices to maximize efficiency of the laboratory and equipment.

This position involves multiple tasks with the ability to prioritize various temporally interrelated tasks and complete them as efficiently as possible. Proficiency and knowledge of related competencies is important for success in this position. Incumbent must possess the ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse set of staff including principal investigators, staff scientists, other postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, undergraduate research assistants and other external stakeholders. The ability to learn new skills related to the technologies integral to materials research is important for success in this position.

The Smith Lab in the Department of Plant Pathology, Entomology and Microbiology at Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa, USA) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position to study mosquito immune cell populations to better define their contributions to host-pathogen interactions and innate immune function.

The candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing projects in the lab to develop genetic tools to examine mosquito immune cell function and their influence in arbovirus and/or malaria parasite infection. The candidate will also have freedom to develop related projects according to his/her/their research interests.

The candidate is expected to work closely with a diverse team of scientists, as well as additional collaborators, to achieve the desired project aims.

The Department of Mathematics, in conjunction with the Translational AI Center, at Iowa State University invites applications for two year postdoctoral position(s) with possible extension to a third year subject to availability of funding. The expected start date is August 16, 2024.

The TrAC Postdoctoral Fellowship Program provides a unique opportunity to Postdoctoral researchers working with TrAC affiliated faculty members at Iowa State in AI+X areas, i.e., interdisciplinary research that integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) with other high-impact domain areas. This opening is in scientific machine learning and/or numerical PDEs, aligning with research interests of Prof. Hailiang Liu. Topics of interest include data-driven modeling, optimal control with deep neural networks, optimization, numerical analysis, and numerical PDEs. The laboratory of Professor Yan Zhao in the Department of Chemistry is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with background in organic chemistry and catalysis. The successful candidate will design and synthesize functional polymeric nanoparticles as artificial enzymes. This is a one-year fixed term appointment that may be eligible for renewal.

The emphasis of this position will be food animal, although a primary bovine emphasis (focus on beef cattle) with exposure to other food animal species is possible. The primary roles of this position are to participate in the department’s ambulatory care unit and to assist in the instruction of veterinary students within the department’s professional program while acquiring the experiences necessary to achieve board certification. Responsibilities will include being on-call and providing emergency services.
