Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc Position in Scanning Probe Microscopy: Correlated Ground States and Multiwell Energy Landscapes in Novel Material Platforms

Correlated electron ground states in materials are currently being explored for utilisation in future energy-efficient nanoscale electronic devices. Two-dimensional (2D) materials provide an exciting platform to host unconventional superconductivity and novel types of magnetic ground states, often next to material phases with charge order. On top of that, creating material atom by atom is a promising route to tailor the electronic structure and to realise artificial matter with exotic electron ground states. Another promising route towards physical implementations of energy-based machine learning and neuromorphic hardware is to utilise material platforms that exhibit multiwell behaviour. One challenge here is to understand and control the dynamic response of the system for complex input signals.

Your goal will be to explore material systems that host novel types of correlated electron ground states as well as pushing forwards the limit of the implementation of brain-inspired computing in materials. You will use a combination of cryogenic scanning probe microscopy techniques beyond the state of the art in high magnetic fields. You will study (quasi) 2D materials and use atomic manipulation schemes to create materials atom by atom and characterise their electronic structure to explore the fundamental physical mechanisms.

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc Position: Crop Genomics and Machine Learning

As climate change accelerates and novel plant diseases emerge, global agriculture faces unprecedented challenges. Modern plant breeding – reliant on molecular markers and genomics – often falters when beneficial traits are genetically linked to deleterious ones, a phenomenon known as linkage drag. To overcome this bottleneck, we are launching a transformative project that leverages machine learning to facilitate crop breeding by design.

This project envisions to build a system that enables precise introgression of desirable traits into elite crop varieties by predicting recombination landscapes across a vast number of potential parental crosses. Implementing the project involves working with a variety of large genomics data and later incorporating the testing on known unwanted linkages.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Assistant: Cognitive Neuromodulation Lab [Study Support] at the Donders Centre for Cognition

We are looking for a research assistant to support ongoing ultrasonic neuromodulation research. Our studies combine ultrasonic brain stimulation with methods of experimental psychology, functional neuroimaging (fMRI) and EEG. They take place at the Donders Centre for Cognition and the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. You will primarily coordinate and contribute to data collection in ongoing studies, provide training and instruction on ultrasonic neuromodulation and support lab management and communication. This includes participant management, data collection, ultrasound treatment planning and administration, teaching and demonstration, organising educational workshops, and administrative tasks.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position: CMT Patients’ Use of Audiovisual Information While Listening

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for the NWO Open Competition M project ’Hidden Hearing and Speech Deficits in Patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease’. Hearing ability is indispensable in our society. For patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (nerve disease in the peripheral nerves), this skill is less obvious. They appear to be less able to hear the order of speech sounds and pitch and to understand clearly spoken sentences with background noise. It is unclear whether listeners with CMT also have more difficulty listening to natural conversation when they can not only hear but also see the speaker.

The project is part of an international consortium of Radboud University, Amsterdam UMC, University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA) and the University of Melbourne (Australia). You will work at Radboud University. Within this subproject, you will study to what extent (and how and why) CMT affects listening to spontaneous conversations in an audiovisual context.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position: Molecular Mechanisms of Motor Neurodegeneration

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who will work independently on Drosophila genetics projects. Your main project will involve the characterisation of mutant lines identified in a forward genetic screen for genes required for axonal maintenance (unpublished). These mutants display adult-onset progressive degeneration of peripheral motor and/or sensory neurons. Phenotypic and molecular characterisation of these mutants involves Drosophila genetic approaches, behavioural analysis, immunohistochemistry, fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH), in vivo non-canonical amino acid tagging (NCAT), confocal and super-resolution imaging, molecular biology, biochemistry, and next-generation sequencing.
