(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: PostDoc position in scientific machine learning
The Space Research and Planetary Sciences Division of the University of Bern is seeking candidates for a PostDoc to work on Rosetta legacy mass spectrometer data obtained at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P). The position, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), is nominally for 1 year with the possibility of an extension.
The intended start date falls within the May-July 2026 timeframe.
The Bern-led high-resolution Double Focusing Mass Spectrometer (DFMS) aboard ESA’s Rosetta mission to comet 67P revealed an unexpected chemical diversity and complexity in cometary matter. The research project uses DFMS legacy data as unique testbed to investigate cometary abiotic organic complexity and establish references for ongoing and future space missions – particularly those employing mass spectrometers in the search for signs of life.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral research associate position in Palynology and Palaeoecology at University of Bern
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Ecology, Environmental Sciences or Earth Sciences with a strong background in numerical analysis and optical microscopy, specifically excellent knowledge of palynology and/or plant macrofossil analysis. Knowledge of Mediterranean vegetation ecology is required. A record of high-quality research (MSc and PhD level) and successful international publication experience are essential. The ability to work well in a team with two PhD students will be crucial as the project will be highly collaborative, involving external university and public partners (e.g. archaeological surveys). Knowledge of Italian language is of advantage.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position in Organic Functional Materials
The MolQ project will pioneer new strategies for controlling molecular assembly and charge pattern on various superconducting surfaces, as well as novel approaches for engineering molecular quantum bits.
This position will contribute to these goals by focusing on the synthesis and characterization of functional molecules specifically designed to optimize electronic properties and self-assembly behavior on surfaces. The successful candidate will synthesize polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with unique electronic properties and structural features. These molecules will be used in on-surface self-assembly processes and chemical reactions to create functional 2D nanostructures. The role involves the development of synthetic methodologies for functionalized PAHs, along with fundamental investigations into the optical and redox properties of the molecules, particularly those designed to exploit surface charge/discharge behavior.
We welcome applications from candidates with strong expertise in organic synthesis and materials chemistry.
Applicants should hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in organic chemistry or a closely related field.
