(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar- Environmental Chemistry
The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment seeks to fill a key postdoctoral position in the NIH-funded community-engaged research supporting existing and on-going research on drinking water disinfection byproducts in the Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology at the University of Kentucky. Disinfection byproducts, which are toxic chemicals formed during chlorination of drinking water, are among the most ubiquitous contaminants of drinking water in the United States and worldwide. They are the primary source of Safe Drinking Water Act Maximum Contaminant Level Violations in the U.S. Responsibilities include: conducting research using both traditional and community-based participatory methods on the factors governing formation of and exposure to disinfection byproducts in rural drinking water systems as part of an NIEHS-funded research to action project. The Autophagy&Metabolism group is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual to work as a Postdoctoral Scholar on translational and basic biomedical research in neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases. Our research focuses on elucidating the roles of autophagy and metabolism in normal cells/animals and in human diseases, utilizing a variety of techniques including transcriptomics/proteomics/metabolomics, other biochemical and cell biological assays, mouse behavioral tests, and confocal/intravital/mass spectrometric imaging.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Assistant, Associate, or Professor in Endocrinology
Faculty member will be expected to conduct innovative, rigorous, grant funded research and engage in scholarly activities (peer reviewed publications, presentations, etc.). Faculty member also will contribute to undergraduate teaching and behaviorally oriented training of UK medical students and research training of UK graduate students and postdoctoral scholars associated with the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, including mentorship programs, courses, workshops, and supervised research. Faculty member also are expected to engage in broader research and training initiatives across all 16 Colleges of the University of Kentucky, including Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, Communication and Information Sciences, Health Sciences, etc. These initiatives include grant consultation and review; a dynamic speaker series and other enriching events like our annual UK Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center Symposium.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar
The postdoctoral scholar will work with a multidisciplinary team that draws on experts in public health, nursing, social and behavioral science, biostatistics, epidemiology, psychology, public policy, health equity, and young adult and rural health. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have opportunities to collect data, manage and analyze large datasets, prepare manuscripts (as first or co-author), prepare conference abstracts, and will be supported in leading their own grant applications (e.g., career development awards, fellowships, etc.). The postdoctoral scholar will also be given the opportunity to develop supplementary studies that support the overarching goals of the AppalTRuST project and will be encouraged to publish and present their research findings. Postdoctoral scholars are eligible for pilot funds and participating in career enhancement activities through the AppalTRuST Career Enhancement Core. Opportunities are also available for interdisciplinary mentoring and training in other tobacco research areas (e.g., behavioral economics, tobacco cessation, qualitative methods, rural health, etc.).

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar
The postdoctoral researcher will design myelopathy and/or spinal cord injury-specific projects, organize and conduct related specialized experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures and in some cases will also design new protocols related to projects; summarize findings and publish results in research journals; assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the assigned projects; provide supervision and guidance to coordinators, students, and junior researchers.
