PhD position summary/title: PhD candidate (f/m/d) for “Characterization of protein cleavage in regulated cell death”
Our team studies biological signaling and protein function with a focus on proteolysis on a proteome-wide scale using mass spectrometry. As part of the SFB1403 (www.sfb1403.uni-koeln.de), we are using termini enrichment approaches to identify new proteolytic processing events and their function in regulated cell death (RCD). The project further aims to deconvolute the activities of different caspases in distinct RCD pathways using optogenetic tools.

PhD position summary/title: Research associate / Doctoral candidate (f/m/d): Verification of the effectiveness of specific measures in the course of resilience management
The aim of the Freiburg Resist project is to investigate the effectiveness of measures to improve the resilience of cities in terms of resilience management. This requires the further development of tools to measure, visualize and improve the resilience of cities and their inhabitants.
The aim of the resilience analysis is to quantitatively measure and validate the increase in urban resilience achieved by the measures. For this purpose, the sensor data to be collected in the project, as well as data on the situation picture, but also, for example, on relevant social factors, will be specified and, on this basis, resilience parameters will be identified that are suitable for mapping resilience from normal operation (normal urban activity) to extraordinary events, such as those rehearsed in the large-scale exercises.

(06) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: Research associate / Doctoral candidate (f/m/d): Simulation methods for the detection of traffic-related CO2 emissions at road construction sites
The FOOTPRINT research project aims to analyse and develop an open data solution to measure, monitor and compare emissions from roadworks, including their impact on traffic. Roadworks have direct and indirect effects on traffic. The speed of traffic may be reduced, but there may also be congestion, obstructions or diversions with longer routes, which have been little considered or recorded in the carbon footprint of roadworks.
The direct and indirect (detour) effects on traffic have been difficult to measure. Using existing open data, e.g. from the mCloud or the motorway app API, but also additional sensors at the construction site (traffic type/vehicle), an analysis will be carried out. The aim is to design a system that allows valid, simulative statements about the influence of road works on the local development of road traffic and CO2 emissions.
Deadline : 31.12.2023
(07) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: (Doctoral) Researcher for augmented reality in forestry
The project aims to evaluate the potential of augmented reality glasses (e.g. HoloLens 2) for forestry, to analyse the accuracy and reliability of the technology under different weather conditions and to investigate their acceptance in the forest sector. Innovative AR approaches, supported by AI, will be designed and AR application for geodata will be developed, tested and the efficiency of AR use will be determined through comparative studies.
