(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Researcher in Neuromonitoring – Intensive Care Unit

Brain injury is a common and significant challenge in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Some patients are admitted with severe primary brain injuries, such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), while others develop secondary brain injury due to systemic complications, including hypotension, hypoxia, and inflammation. At Maastricht University Medical Center+ (MUMC+), we have extensively studied brain physiology and dysfunction in critically ill patients and developed strategies to support cerebral physiology. For example, we recently completed a feasibility and safety study on individualized cerebral perfusion targets in severe TBI patients, demonstrating the potential for personalized neuromonitoring approaches. Building on these findings, we are expanding our research to offer advanced neuromonitoring to all critically ill patients, exploring non-invasive monitoring techniques and closedloop vasopressor systems.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc Using spectroscopy & laboratory analytics to drive system models for the plastic value chain

Our group is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to carry out research and development in the PlastiCycle 4.0 project. Conventional volume-based plastic recycling has reached its limitations, the agenda calls for a radical shift toward quality-focused recycling and high-functionality integration within the value chain. PlastiCycle 4.0 aims to explore the new potential of quality-based recycling via leading edge technologies in analytics, physical processing, and digitalization. By emphasizing quality considerations, the PlastiCycle 4.0 project positions Dutch industries for a competitive edge within the circular plastics ecosystem. This forward-looking approach promises not only economic growth and job creation but also heightened resource efficiency. Additionally, it significantly reduces environmental costs through the upcycling of plastics, contributing to both sustainability and resource management. The postdoctoral researcher within the PlastiCycle 4.0 project is expected to carry out material characterization (with focus on plastic additives and contaminant), then develop flow models using such characterization data subsequently, empowering the plastic value chain.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Advanced Optical & Mobile Microscopy for Sustainable Agriculture Technologies

The RE-IMAGINE-CROPS project is an ambitious EU-funded initiative addressing sustainable agriculture challenges through the development of cutting-edge imaging technologies. This project aims to revolutionize nitrogen (N)-fertilizer application by developing the first real-time, in-field, portable, and multiscale Positron Emission Tomography – Multiphoton Endoscope (PET-ME) technology. The novel approach combines whole-plant metabolic (PET) with cellular-level structural and functional imaging (ME). This will enable precise tailoring of N-fertilizer use to optimize crop health and minimize ecological and economic losses.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position: Early prediction of reading problems at the Department Cognitive Neuroscience

Children’s reading development shows large variability. Reading problems (dyslexia) are currently diagnosed and treated after a child has failed to respond adequately to reading instruction, i.e., around 8-9 years. This is problematic because early intervention is crucial for optimal (reading) development and social opportunities.

Within this postdoc project you will develop and test a digital dynamic assessment (DA) tool that measures kindergartners’ potential for learning to read, rather than their existing skills, offering a less biased approach. DA uses interactive tasks to understand how children learn. In a two-year longitudinal study with children aged 5-8 you will evaluate the DA tool’s effectiveness in predicting reading skills and identifying those needing additional support to prevent reading difficulties.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Migration Law and Governance

SoftEn – Soft Enforcement of EU Migration Law – is a five-year project running 2025-2029 that is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) as a Starting Grant. The core project team will consist of four researchers, the Principal Investigator Lilian Tsourdi, 1 post-doctoral researcher, and 2 doctoral researchers. In addition, Dr. Sarah Tas and Dr. Lukasz Dziedzic will respectively co-supervise one doctoral researcher. SoftEn conceptualizes soft enforcement and unlocks the black box of its operationalisation in the context of migration. It brings together theoretical insights from legal and political science on governance, enforcement, and accountability, combining legal analysis with empirical qualitative methods.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: PostDoc ‘Modulation of brain ageing through nutrition and healthy lifestyle’

Cognitive decline is a serious threat to health and well-being in the ageing population. Our transnational EU consortium investigates the combined effects of B-vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids (ω-3 FA) on brain health, focusing on cognitive decline and dementia. Data from over 50,000 individuals will be used to explore the effects of habitual diet and genetic background on long-term cognitive outcomes. Additionally, a randomized controlled trial will assess the impact of joint supplementation with B-vitamins and ω-3 FA on brain atrophy in older adults. The research aims to shape new guidelines for better brain health.
