(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Scholar, Masculinities Studies in Education

This position will work closely in collaboration with Dr. Michael Kehler, Werklund Research Professor of Masculinities Studies and provides an opportunity to develop the current research agenda within Masculinities Studies in Education. Research, current and ongoing, addresses areas intersecting masculinities and gender more broadly with specific lines of inquiry into: body image, adolescent masculinities, homophobia, sport, physical health education, and allyship. This is not an exhaustive list and is open to further areas of inquiry that build on already established research. In addition to building a clear research agenda, the candidate will work closely with Dr. Kehler to develop and submit collaborative research grants at both the provincial and national level. With a focus on research development, publications and scholarship, the successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong emerging research record and moreover, demonstrate excellent initiative in both analytical, organizational, and writing abilities.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Kidney Health Informatics and Data Science

The Alberta Kidney Disease Network (AKDN) and the University of Calgary are accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in data science for kidney health and disease, to be based in Calgary, Alberta. The AKDN is a collaborative network of researchers located in the cities of Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. AKDN trainees and junior faculty have previously published papers as first authors in a variety of prestigious journals including the Lancet, BMJ, JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, JASN, and Kidney International (for more information visit https://cumming.ucalgary.ca/research/akdn ).

This Postdoctoral Scholarship will train emerging leaders in data science for kidney health and disease. The two key areas of focus are: (1) developing advanced predictive approaches (including machine learning and statistical learning) using synthetic data and (2) creating and testing risk prediction tools for kidney disease, using several existing databases, including a provincial repository of administrative, clinical, and laboratory data. Candidates will have the opportunity for first-hand experience with research initiatives directly related to the key focus areas.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Menopause, Immunometabolism and Adipose Function, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The Thompson lab at the University of Calgary is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Scholar position. The successful candidate will work on a project that aims to understand the role of estrogen signaling in mediating sex differences in adipose function during the development of obesity. Experimental approaches include transgenic mouse models, whole-mount imaging, flow cytometry, and single cell sequencing. Candidates will be expected to apply for external and internal fellowships and have a strong desire to establish an independent career in science. The candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment and have access to career development and training opportunities through core facilities and research institutes at the Cumming School of Medicine (Libin Cardiovascular Institute and Alberta Children¿s Hospital Research Institute). The research program of the Thompson lab is funded by CIHR, NSERC, Diabetes Canada and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. (04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Cancer Epidemiology

The Postdoctoral Scholar will be supervised by Dr. Miranda Fidler-Benaoudia and will undertake research investigating the long-term effects of having cancer as a child, adolescent or young adult.  The successful candidate will work on a variety of cancer epidemiologic research studies that utilize registries and administrative health databases, including the Discharge Abstract Database, National Ambulatory Care Reporting System, and Practitioner Claims. Immediate research projects include (i) understanding the impact of long-term survivorship care on decreasing adverse health outcomes and healthcare utilization; (ii) risk of psychiatric disorders by age at diagnosis; and (iii) treatment-related morbidity. Additional projects can be developed based upon the successful candidate¿s interests. The start date is negotiable for the right candidate.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar, Adverse Childhood Experiences and Life Course Development

Dr. Sheri Madigan, Professor, Canada Research Chair, and Director of the Determinants of Child Development Lab at the University of Calgary, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar (PDS) to join her team. The PDS will focus on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), toxic stress, and mental health using longitudinal data analysis and/or meta-analytic methods.

The PDS will work in a highly collaborative lab environment with other PDFs, research associates, graduate students, research assistants, undergraduates, and volunteers. Responsibilities include preparing and cleaning existing datasets for analysis, conducting advanced statistical analyses, writing manuscripts, participating in grant writing, and overseeing targeted lab studies. Additionally, the PDS will have opportunities to develop skills in undergraduate teaching, supervising honors students, engaging in knowledge mobilization (e.g., writing opinion editorials), and contributing to the labs professional development activities. The PDS is also encouraged to contribute to cutting-edge knowledge translation through our collaboration with ACEsHub.org.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Associate, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The laboratory of Dr. Ana Nikolic is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral fellow for a two-year term with possible extension depending on funding availability. The goal of this project is to leverage emerging spatial biology approaches to improve our understanding of brain tumour state evolution, recurrence and treatment resistance. The candidate will have access to banked patient tissues, cryopreserved primary specimens, patient-derived cell cultures and xenograft mouse models from glioblastoma patients. We will apply novel techniques including spatial ATAC-seq and spatial multiomic assays to better understand these spatial niches and how they evolve over time.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Medical Oncology Clinical and Research Fellow, Cumming School of Medicine

The Oncology Outcomes (O2) and Precision Oncology and Experimental Therapeutics (POET) programs are recruiting one full-time medical oncology clinical and research fellow, under the supervision of Dr. Winson Cheung and Dr. Steven Yip at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre/Arthur JE Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Construction of our new Calgary Cancer Centre is currently underway with a vision to become the largest Canadian cancer centre of excellence by 2024. The O2 and POET programs are world renowned for their work in real world outcomes cancer research and precision oncology research.

The funded fellowship position may be 1-2 years with a clinical focus in genitourinary cancers and research focus on undertaking real world evidence projects utilising the wealth of databases housed at the centre. There will also be the opportunity to be exposed to trial protocol development and possible involvement in late phase clinical trials.
