Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Event Cameras for Quality Control
Plastic packaging persists in the environment and is difficult to recycle. There is a growing demand for alternative materials to use as containers for liquids. Pulpex Ltd. (https://www.pulpex.com) are developing a new type of bottle made from cellulose fibres. The Pulpex bottle uses sustainable materials, can be recycled in existing paper waste-streams, can naturally degrade if not recycled, and has a carbon footprint 30% less than poly(ethylene terephthalate).
This research post is part of the EPSRC-funded SustaPack Prosperity Partnership project between the University of Surrey and Pulpex Ltd. As a research fellow, you will help to make the paper bottle a reality through your fundamental research on autonomous quality control. The coatings are needed for the bottles to hold liquids and to achieve a long shelf-life of the products contained within them. You will work as part of a team of three post-doctoral fellows and a PhD student at the University of Surrey along with engineers from Pulpex.

Postdoc summary/title: Research Fellow in CFD modelling of hydrogen fire and explosions
The Fire and Explosion Modelling Group (FEMG) at University of Surrey is seeking a Research Fellow to work on CFD modelling of hydrogen fire and explosions using OpenFOAM. The research aims to fill important knowledge gaps related to the upscaling of hydrogen energy applications.
You will build on the in-house HyFOAM solver, which has been modified within the frame of OpenFOAM for simulating hydrogen jet fires and explosions. The sponsor will conduct in-house small and medium-scale tests with substantial instrumentation to support model validation. The explosion modelling will be limited to turbulent deflagrations for this phase of the project, which is for a duration of two years.
You will simulate vapour cloud explosions from cryogenic liquid hydrogen releases for a joint industry project led by Professor Jennifer Wen. There will be ample opportunities to interact with the industrial sponsors from the oil and gas industry. For the execution of both projects, limited modifications are needed for HyFOAM. FEPG has a Senior Research Fellow who help to perform code modifications and consolidation.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Veterinary Health Innovation Engine
An exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow in the School of Veterinary Medicine. The Veterinary Health Innovation Engine is a cross disciplinary entity dedicated to generation of data and then taking such data, turning it into information and thereby developing tools, approaches and devices to improve animal health. It is based in the School of Veterinary Medicine and collaborates extensively with the School of Biosciences. There has been a significant development in measurement technologies applied to human medicine research and diagnostic tool generation. We are applying these same approaches into veterinary medicine. Thus, much of the platform development work has been achieved in our lab and the labs of others.
The postdoctoral fellowship aims to build and expand our proteomics and informatics capability, primarily focused on improving human and veterinary health. The job holder will contribute to the team’s mission by using advanced analytical techniques to define the relative levels of key biomarkers in the blood samples from companion animals and livestock. The post will involve developing assays for nucleic acids (e.g. miRNA) and mass spectrometry-based techniques. You will analyse protein levels and biomarkers using ELISA, LC-MS, and bioinformatics tools (training provided) and optimise sample preparation SOPs for omics techniques.
