(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at the Department of Social Anthropology

ASYKNOW will develop new conceptual tools for understanding the role of expert knowledge in asylum governance by investigating the ways in which knowledge about asylum seekers and migration is mobilized, contested, and constituted through asylum litigation. The project combines an ethnography of legal processes with legal archaeology.

The postdoc is expected to work closely with the project leader to conduct a legal archaeology study of selected court cases in the Scandinavian context. Legal archaeology focuses on the legal journey of a case and examines it in its socio-historical context. As the task involves analyzing legal case documents from different Scandinavian countries, the position require proficiency in a Scandinavian language. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the development of the overall project in terms of comparison, integration and dissemination of knowledge. (05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow within space physics

The goal of the DynaMIT project is to understand and explain how Earth’s atmosphere is dynamically coupled to space. To achieve this, we will create a new simulation code based on a first-principles dynamic fluid description of the interaction between space plasma, the neutral atmosphere, and electromagnetic fields, and use the model in connection with novel observations and data analysis techniques. We are seeking a skilled space physicist and specialist in inverse problems with experience from advanced data analysis related to ionospheric electrodynamics. The candidate will help further develop the “Local mapping of polar ionospheric electrodynamics” technique and have an active part in NASA’s Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer satellite mission.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Elderly Medicine, Innovation and Technology

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Global Public Health and Primary care, a full-time (100 %) position as postdoctoral research fellow is available for a period of two (2) years. This position is funded by a grant from the Research Council of Norway “Virtual darkness and digital phenotyping in specialized and municipal dementia care: The DARK.DEM randomized controlled trial”. In this project, we will explore if virtual darkness, that is, light without blue wavelengths, can improve treatment of behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, such as agitation, anxiety, depression and psychosis. We will conduct a randomized controlled trial at NKS Olaviken gerontopsychiatric hospital, Askøy, in which patients with agitation and dementia will be allocated to either standard treatment or add-on treatment with virtual darkness. We will also utilize data from wearable sensors to evaluate behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. Read more about the project here:

DARK.DEM is part of an innovative, active and multidisciplinary research group in elderly medicine at SEFAS, which have several ongoing studies in which sensor data are used to monitor symptoms, intervention effects and disease course in elderly persons and people with dementia. Professor Bettina Husebø is the head of SEFAS, the centre has approximately 15 employees, and a large network both nationally (Neuro-Sys-Med, Haraldsplass Deaconess Hospital, Bergen municipality, Ageing and Health, VID specialized university) and internationally (Kings College, Yale, MiT and Harvard University). SEFAS is partner Alrek Health Cluster in Årstadveien.

There is a vacancy for a predoctoral fellow at the Centre for Research on Discretion and Paternalism (DIPA) at the Department of Government, University of Bergen, Norway. The position is for a fixed-term period of 12 months. The formal name of the predoctoral position in the university system is “research assistant”.
