(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc for project Wellbeing and Virtual Worlds

The Department of Design, Media and Educational Studies (Philosophy) invites applications for a 1-year postdoc position. The postdoc will contribute to the subproject “Going all in”, a study of the experiences and attitudes of dedicated users of VRChat, an online virtual world platform allowing users to interact with others with user-created 3D avatars and worlds.

The position is part of the collaborative research project Wellbeing and Virtual Worlds, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and is available from September 1., 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The project aims at examining the fundamental premises behind assessments of the quality of life in virtual worlds and contributing to a more nuanced understanding of life in virtual spaces. It comprises value theory and empirical studies of user experiences and the interplay between online and offline activities, combining philosophy, media studies (including game studies) and psychology. It is a collaborative project between SDU and the University of Aarhus (Department of Public Health).

In the subproject, dedicated platform users should be recruited and studied in depth, focusing on both their experiences and evaluations and their actual activities in- and outside VRChat. We welcome ideas and suggestions for sampling and recruitment and specific methodological and theoretical approaches. Apart from experience with qualitative research (preferably with a phenomenological orientation), qualifications in digital media research and methodology and wellbeing studies are particularly relevant. Ideas for specific subtopics or focuses can be submitted with the application, and the postdoc will have the opportunity to pursue their own special interests within the framework of the project. Applicants should, however, also be willing to develop their ideas in collaboration with the other project members and contribute to joint work within the project, including joint publications.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in Advanced Computational Design of Metamaterials (CodeMeta) at SDU Sønderborg

Metamaterials have been a promising solution to the light-weight and multifunctional designs of many engineering components in fields of airflights, vehicles and green energy, to reduce the energy consumption, greenhouse gas emission and harvest energy for the mission of green transition. This leads to the emergence of various metamaterials with high strength-to-density ratio, excellent energy absorption performance, energy harvesting and sensing functions and other multifunctionalities. However, design of metamaterials still relies on experience guided trial-and-error (or brainstorming) strategy. The main reason behind is that metamaterials are assemblies of numerous cells produced by additive manufacturing, and thus their macro-scale responses are dominated by meso-scale cells and micro-scale patterns. To overcome this challenge, the CoDeMeta project will establish an advanced computational design platform for metamaterials, whereby concurrent multiscale modelling and optimization methods will be further developed for applications to various types of multifunctional metamaterials.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc positions in functional genomics and cancer

You will lead a research project focused on dissecting the gene-regulatory mechanisms, whereby the oncoprotein MYC controls cancer cell biology. You will integrate loss- and gain-of-function tools (e.g., CRISPR/Cas and degron systems) with a range of advanced omics approaches (including single-cell technologies) in pre-clinical model systems such as cell lines and patient-derived tumor organoids as well as patient samples. The goal is to uncover key gene-regulatory mechanisms and transcriptional regulators supporting MYC action in breast cancer to understand how this critical oncoprotein controls cancer biology and potentially provide new therapeutic opportunities for the treatment of this disease. Expertise in functional genomics methods (e.g., single-cell and bulk RNA-seq, ATAC-seq and ChIP-seq) and omics data analysis is considered highly advantageous.
