(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Fellow in statistical modeling for genomic data

The position is part of the research project “Prediction of genetic values and adaptive potential in the wild” funded through a Consolidator Grant by the European Research Council (ERC). A major goal of the project is to develop cutting-edge statistical methodology to analyse and make predictions from large-scale genomic data, which is currently generated for many wild animal populations. To this end, the project combines modern statistical methodology and builds on the current state-of-the art in animal breeding, human genomics, ecology and evolutionary biology. The post-doc will thus work with a cross-disciplinary team of researchers and can contribute towards the development of methods that will make an impact to better understand evolution and the robustness of wild anmial populations, with the ultimate goal to help preserving biodiversity.

Deadline : 4th April 2025

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Hydropower Technologies

The overarching aim of STORE2HYDRO is to introduce a new mindset for storage of electricity in connection with existing hydropower. Relatively small adjustments to existing hydropower facilities by retrofitting reversible pump turbine technology would allow the European electricity storage capacity to increase by 22TWh/y or more. The aim will be achieved by:
i) Validated innovative mechanical solutions to TRL4-5 for larger-scale pumped, longer-duration storage of electricity in existing high head Reservoir-to-Reservoir (RtR) and low head Run-of-River (RoR) hydropower facilities.

ii) Mapping untapped hydropower sources for long term electricity storage in Europe increasing the availability, robustness and safety of energy storage solutions. The novel technologies will enable the operators to run hydropower stations in a more efficient, cost effective and flexible manner than today also adapting to the energy system. This is without changing the regulating heights or volume of the reservoir/river reaches following the European Green Deal priorities. Also, turbine manufacturers can introduce new components for cost-effective retrofitting of pumped storage. The technology will be validated with detailed LCA and by consideration of CAPEX and OPEX of potential future plant.

Deadline : 28th March 2025

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher (Postdoctoral level) in theoretical evolutionary ecology

The researcher (Postdoctoral level) position is part of a major research project funded by the European Research Council, with the overall objective of providing new theoretical and empirical understanding of spatial and seasonal eco-evolutionary dynamics in nature.

The primary aims of the position will be to provide new theoretical understanding of the microevolutionary dynamics of dichotomous traits, and to explore the implications for eco-evolutionary dynamics. This will include evaluating impacts of fluctuating selection, selection on phenotypic plasticity and multivariate constraints, and resulting non-additive genetic effects and gene-byenvironment interactions. The objectives will be achieved through combinations of mathematical quantitative genetic theory and individual-based modelling. Resulting theory will be used to inform analyses of eco-evolutionary dynamics arising in spatially- and seasonally varying environments, working alongside researchers analyzing field data on variable seasonal migration.

The researcher (Postdoctoral level) position provides an exciting opportunity to lead research advances in fundamental evolutionary principles, and their implications in the context of varying environments. It will suit applicants who are motivated to undertake high-level quantitative research in these areas, integrating theoretical and empirical science. Training in key concepts will be provided, and further skills in modelling and analytical approaches can be learned as required.

Deadline : 17th March 2025

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Distributed Acoustic Sensing and 3D Applications

The overall research goal for this Post doc position is to gain insights into how distributed acoustic sensing can be used in novel 3D subsurface imaging and seismic analysis applications – with a focus on CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) monitoring and offshore windfarm geotechnical assessments. Up to now most work has been done on passive recording of DAS-data and active source acquisitions have been dominated by vertical seismic profiling in boreholes. More recently seafloor DAS acquisitions have been performed, but only a few experiments so far, with most focusing on traditional reflection-based seismic processing and imaging. With the Post doc position we intend to go beyond conventional reflection-based acquisition and processing, and explore possibilities and limitations for surface or seafloor DAS-acquisition and especially how this can be extended into novel 3D subsurface imaging or characterization tools. The research will include new ways of combining information from passive and active data, as well as investigate state-of-the full-waveform-based approaches to infer subsurface model information from such data.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow position in integrated biodiversity data workflows

We offer a 3-year postdoctoral position that gives you the opportunity to develop a strong profile as a researcher. You will also gain valuable experience that might be relevant for your further career. The purpose of a postdoctoral position is to build up a researcher profile that qualifies for a position as associate professor. The position may also offer additional skills that are relevant to the postdoctoral fellow’s future career.
The positions will work within the biodiversity impacts research area of INTERPLAY and be part of a larger interdisciplinary group of recruitment positions at the Gjærevoll Center for Biodiveristy Foresight Analysis working to better understand biodiversity and how this is impacted by natural and anthropogenic drivers.

The successful candidate will work with the development and implementation of data integration workflows and models that will form the basis for a digital twin of Norwegian biodiversity. The work will be built upon open data and will utilize state-of-the art integrated models developed by members at the Gjærevoll Centre. These new developments seek to tackle the issue with spatial and temporal biases in biodiversity data. This will enable integration of information from opportunistically collected museum specimens and citizen science observations with structured surveys to enable cumulative biodiversity impact assessments of energy system infrastructure.
