(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Research Associate in Structural Analysis and Design of Composites

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering, working with Prof. Richard Butler and Dr Andy Rhead on next-generation technologies for composite aerostructures.

Following decades of relative stability, the aerospace sector is open to disruption through the combination of environmental imperatives and ageing aircraft fleets. The EPSRC Prosperity Partnership ZENITH (Zero Emission: the Next-generation of Integrated Technologies for Hydrogen), between GKN Aerospace and the University of Bath, aims to position the UK as a leader in the field in emerging zero emission aircraft.

Deadline : Friday 31 January 2025

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Research Associate in Digital Hydraulic Fluid Power

We are seeking two Research Associates to take a key role in the design and development of digital hydraulic fluid power technologies and control systems. The roles are funded by the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, investigating Digital Hydraulic Fluid Power Technologies for Decarbonising Off-road Vehicles.

Hydraulic fluid power has several advantages, such as high power density, compactness, low weight, fast response, and good controllability. However, the current hydraulic control method involves using valves to throttle flow, reduce pressure, and control the speed and force of the load. Although this approach is simple to operate, it is highly energy inefficient, and the average power efficiency of fluid power systems is only about 21%.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Composites Manufacturing

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join us on the ATI (Aerospace Technology Institute) funded project “Multi-Application Bonding” (MABOND). The project partners Bath with several industrial and academic collaborators which are invested in composite manufacturing processes. MABOND is a research and innovation initiative to develop and accelerate structural bonding technologies to replace fasteners.

We’re seeking a composites research engineer who will conduct parametric studies and material testing relating to our in-house resistance welding process. You will modify the existing rig according to project requirements and based on our evolving understanding of the process. In addition, you’ll develop and verify an FEA/Strip model of the welded joints, which will also be used for parametric studies.

Deadline : Sunday 26 January 2025

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate (fixed-term)

Applications are invited for a two 3-year full-time Research Associates to work with Prof Euan Spence as part of the ERC Synergy Grant “Phase-space-inspired numerical methods for high-frequency wave scattering: from semiclassical analysis through numerical analysis to implementation” (www.psinumscat.com).

These positions will be concerned with the numerical analysis – involving a mixture of theory and computations – of acoustic and electromagnetic problems, modelled in the frequency domain by the Helmholtz equation and the time-harmonic Maxwell equations.

Deadline : Sunday 23 February 2025

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in stability analysis of ready-to-use injectable medicines

We are looking for an outstanding researcher to help pioneer novel methods for evaluation of drug molecules (biological and small molecule) to assess compatibility in line with relevant NHS guidelines. Our vision is to gain a deeper understanding of the pathways and mechanisms that impact drug stability in-use.

The ability to develop a deeper understanding of the many effects that manufacture process and storage impart on ready to use medicines is of crucial importance in the future development of improved formulations for these molecules and improving their safety towards patients.

About  The University of Bath, England – Official Website

The University of Bath is a public research university in Bath, England. It received its royal charter in 1966, along with a number of other institutions following the Robbins Report. Like the University of Bristol and University of the West of England, Bath can trace its roots to the Merchant Venturers’ Technical College, established in Bristol as a school in 1595 by the Society of Merchant Venturers. The university’s main campus is located on Claverton Down, a site overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath, and was purpose-built, constructed from 1964 in the modernist style of the time.

In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, 40% of Bath’s submitted research activity achieved the highest possible classification of 4*, defined as world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour. 92% was graded 4*/3*, defined as world-leading/internationally excellent. The annual income of the institution for 2022–23 was £362.9 million of which £44.8 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £356.8 million.
