(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:   FABA Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer – Precision fermentation

In this role, you will seek to evaluate the technical feasibility of integrating precision fermentation into current diary infrastructure. This research is in collaboration with Fonterra, one of Australia’s largest dairy manufacturers, and its Research and Development Centre (FRDC) in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

This project will investigate the technical and economic feasibility of using underutilised assets from the seasonal dairy industry, such as in Australia and New Zealand, for post-fermentation processing of precision fermentation products, potentially providing a cost-effective scale pathway for the technology and bridging the scale gap. This will include evaluating the utilisation and recycling of side streams from both fermentation and dairy processing. This role would suit researchers with experience in (precision) fermentation, bioprocess engineering, techno-economic and life cycle analysis.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow & Research Fellow in Psychology

We currently have two exciting opportunities for research academics to join our prestigious School of Psychology. We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow (at Academic Level A) and an experienced Research Fellow (at Academic Level B) to conduct high quality research on the School’s GROWTH project.

This project, Groups and Relationships to Optimise Wellbeing and HealTH, is a public health solution for the prevention and management of loneliness. GROWTH targets the prevention and management of loneliness, which is among our most pressing public health issues.

The GROWTH program will pioneer a new integrated, sustainable community-focused approach that leverages UQ’s intervention program, GROUPS 4 HEALTH, in ways that help people to optimise their access and use of existing community resources. Working with academic and community partners who work with young people and older adults, GROWTH aims to empower people to manage loneliness when it presents, but also to prevent its occurrence which is needed to reduce the health burden and cost of loneliness at scale.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow – Marine Science

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to engage in research to better understand ocean carbon cycling and fisheries production. The position is funded through the Australian Research Council Discovery Project Zooplankton: the missing link in modelling the ocean carbon cycle. Zooplankton constitute 40% of total marine biomass and include the fastest-growing animals, yet are poorly resolved in current models. Our ability to model zooplankton adequately is arguably the biggest gap in our ability to close the ocean carbon cycle and thus improve model forecasts of carbon sequestration and fisheries. In this project, we will improve the modelling of zooplankton in an innovative ecosystem model to help close the carbon cycle and answer questions about climate risks to the biological pump and fish. The project is a collaboration between scientists at The University of Queensland and The University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia, The University of California, San Diego, USA and The University of British Columbia, Canada.

The research fellow will be responsible for leading the continued development of the Zooplankton Model of Size Spectra (ZooMSS), which was developed at The University of Queensland. Future improvements to the model that are needed, include, but are not limited to, improving the modelling of fish groups, enhancing the modelling of primary production, updating model inputs governing the temperature sensitivity of physiological processes, incorporating the impacts of fishing on marine ecosystems, and resolving the mesopelagic realm.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Conjoint Research Fellow – Physiotherapy

This is a unique conjoint opportunity for an experienced and dedicated Research Fellow in Physiotherapy to join the Physiotherapy team at UQ’s School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences and the Physiotherapy department at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Metro South Hospital and Health Service. The aim of this conjoint position is to enhance the clinical research capabilities of both institutions in the area of adult Physiotherapy that aligns with, and enhances, service areas of the Physiotherapy department, Princess Alexandra Hospital, and clinical research themes of UQ’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

As a Conjoint Research Fellow, you will engage in research and leverage your established record of publications in Physiotherapy to develop national recognition in this area. This position will involve planning, undertaking and disseminating clinically-based research activities including presenting at conferences and sharing findings with key stakeholders. As a Research Academic at Level B, you will fulfil a chief investigator role in applications for external research funds and supervise University of Queensland honours, masters and PhD students. (05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Ligand-gated Ion Channel Electrophysiology

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to engage in research to further their expertise and growing research profile to achieve national recognition in the field of ligand-gated ion channel pharmacology. Our laboratory explores peptides that modulate the activity of ion channels involved in human disease. This project focuses on characterising the interaction of peptide modulators with acid-sensing ion channel 1a (ASIC1a), with a view to therapeutic development of these peptides. The candidate for this position will be involved in all aspects of the project and is expected to efficiently manage service and engagement roles and activities.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer – Biomass-derived Advanced Materials

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow / Research Officer to work between two teams with complementary expertise in (a) biomass conversion, and (b) the electrochemical conversion of CO2 and high-performance membrane materials.

Biomass-derived advanced materials will be of critical importance in the field of sustainable CO2 capture and electrochemical conversion. These materials encompass carbons, nanocellulose, nanocomposite membranes and catalyst support. However, to advance the performance of these materials, more specific green chemistry pre-treatments and scalable mechanical refining methods need to be developed. This project will explore the fundamentals of elegant sustainable chemistry pre-treatments (e.g. enzymatic, natural deep eutectic solvents (NDES)) as applied to various lignocellulose feedstocks, so that we can better understand and “tune” a vast array of materials structure-property-relationships useful in CO2 conversion.
