PhD position summary/title: PhD Candidate for Gas-phase Contamination Detection in Real-life Applications: Combining Spectroscopy and Spectrometry

Our research team is a diverse team of international scientists interested in trace detection for different applications. We use a combination of spectroscopy and spectrometry instruments for this purpose. We also develop methodologies for novel applications of spectrometry as well as novel laser-based spectroscopy techniques and instruments. We have a large list of national and international collaborating groups, universities, institutes and companies in several national and European projects. This provides us with a very active and open environment, and exposes us to new challenges in trace detection for which we can provide solutions.

The TDLab is embedded within the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM), at the Faculty of Science of Radboud University (Nijmegen, Netherlands). IMM is a dynamic interdisciplinary research institute that brings together the fields of chemistry and physics, to unravel the mysteries of atomic, molecular and solid state environments. With a focus on fundamental research, IMM strive to make a positive impact on society by exploring practical applications and educating the future leaders in science and innovation.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Candidate: Whiteness, Spirituality and Esotericism

You will be embedded in the Department of Comparative Religious Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religion Studies, and participate in the Graduate School of Humanities (GSH). You will be expected to contribute to the Center for Religion and Contemporary Society (CRCS), in particular to the Center’s focus on a resilient society, social cohesion, and conflict. You will also become part of the Race-Religion Research Group, an interdisciplinary group of scholars at Radboud University concerned with the study of race and religion.

Staff and students in the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies reflect on the great challenges of our time, exploring concepts, belief systems and worldviews. In this way they provide philosophical and religious context to societal debate and contribute to the analysis and solution of major societal challenges. The faculty has over 180 staff, organised in eight academic departments and four support departments. Our academics collaborate in six research centres and teach more than 1,000 students.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Candidate: Migrant Muslim Foodways

You will be embedded in the Department of Islam, Politics and Society; the Center for Religion and Contemporary Society (CRCS); and the Graduate School of Humanities (GSH) of the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies. You will be supervised by Dr Joud Al Korani, Karin van Nieuwkerk (promotor), and a third supervisor (to be assigned in relation to your specific project). We believe the project can take different directions, depending on the profile of the candidate, and thus, the position can be approached from either (or both) of the following backgrounds:

Option 1: Training in Classics or History

  • You should have or shortly expect to obtain an MA or MPhil in Classics or History (in the case of a degree in History, university-level credits in Latin language and literature will be required), with an MA thesis of high quality (if you have not yet obtained the degree at the time of appointment, a statement by your supervisor should confirm that it will be obtained on time).

PhD position summary/title: PhD Candidate: Perceptual Decision-Making and Confidence

  • You have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Math, or another related field.
  • You must comply with the Marie Curie Actions mobility rule: the researcher must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the beneficiary (in this case: the Netherlands) for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their appointment.
  • Previous experience with computer programming, or other quantitative experience, is highly preferred.
  • Experience with visual psychophysics, fMRI, computational modelling, and data analysis is a plus.
