Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: 2 year postdoc / scientist position in the field of mid-IR laser absorption spectroscopy
The project aims at the development and field application of a high-precision, miniaturized mid-IR spectrometer. You will leverage on our previous work for drone based methane measurement to design a multi-species, lightweight instrument that can be carried by UAVs to quantify the emissions of large ship engines off-shore and in the harbour. This involves developments in the laboratory and field campaigns, both in close collaboration with our partners Alpes Lasers, ALTUS LSA and METIS Baltic.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position on biopolymer-based battery binder materials
Together with our team of experienced scientists and industry partners, you will develop a new generation of green and sustainable binder materials enabling energy efficient processing of batteries. This project bridges our activities in the fields of biopolymers and composite processing and will be carried out in a framework of a large national project in close collaboration with the Empa Laboratory Materials for Energy Conversion. Combining fundamental and applied science, the goal is to develop highly functional and industrially relevant material solutions, which may be implemented as commercial products. We envision that the generated knowledge will advance the use of green binder materials in batteries and lead to advancements lowering the overall CO2 footprint of battery manufacturing.

The Laboratory for Thin Films and Photovoltaics is internationally known for innovative research in the fields of thin-film photovoltaics, thin-film batteries, and printed electronics. Specifically, thin-film solid-state batteries (SSBs) are developed for powering wireless sensors and smart cards. At the same time, thin-film geometry provides a flexible platform for exploring materials and interfacial phenomena that can be transferred to bulk batteries.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in the area of Bacteria and Materials interactions
The scope of the position is to investigate bacterial mechanosensing and bacteria&materials interactions in general, with the final goal of developing novel antimicrobial materials.The objectives include physicochemical characterization of bacterial mutants and material properties, using microfluidics platform to investigate the bacteria and surface interaction at single-cell level, and identification of the mode of mechanisms used by bacteria for mechanosensing and the effect of the material properties on the sensing. The work should contribute to a fundamental understanding of how bacteria sense a surface and what influences the involved sensing system. The results should be communicated in peer-reviewed well-known scientific journals.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: 2-year postdoc/software engineer position on accelerating the atmospheric chemistry transport model ICON-ART for next-generation supercomputer architectures
In a project under the Swiss Platform for Advanced Scientific Computing (PASC), we develop a computationally highly efficient version of ICON-ART, optimized for the next generation supercomputing systems. For this purpose, large parts of ART are ported to GPUs primarily based on OpenACC directives. This will enable integrating ART into an existing GPU-accelerated version of ICON.

The overall goal of this work is to support the development and consolidation of concepts and tools for SSbD chemicals, materials and products and their operationalisation. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and application of SSbD approaches and methods. In close interaction with international projects partners from various fields, SSbD approaches will be developed and tested for materials and chemicals.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher/Scientist in the field of HiPIMS process development
In this project, we aim to develop new HiPIMS processes for the synthesis of functional, metastable thin films, particularly nitrides. The phase formation during reactive sputter deposition depends on many parameters. Due to the complexity of the pulsed sputtering process, a deep understanding of the physical processes in the deposition system is important. To this end, we will develop models and simulate the process using multi-physics software. The results of these simulations will be validated using state-of-the-art process diagnostics as well as material characterization techniques. The objective is to understand and exploit the synthesis-structure-property relationships in reactive HiPIMS to create new thin film materials with tailored functionality.
