Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc Research Associate

The Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University invites applications for a two year postdoctoral position with possible extension to a third year subject to availability of funding. The expected start date is August 16, 2025 and the end date is Jun 30, 2027.

 

This opening is in mathematical logic aligning with research interests of Prof. James Hanson. This includes model theory, neostability theory, and interactions between logic and real analysis including continuous logic and the model theory of metric structures.

 

The position has a 2-1 teaching load and a requirement to be involved with mentoring undergraduate students in research through the Iowa State Math Research Teams (ISMaRT, https://sites.google.com/view/ismart-iastate).

The expected start date is August 16, 2025 but an earlier starting date is possible.   This opening is in Control Theory and/or Quantum Physics  aligning with the research interests of Prof. Domenico D’Alessandro.   This includes geometric optimal control, applications of control theory to quantum systems, lie theory dynamical analysis of quantum systems, quantum information with emphasis with quantum error correction, Lie algebraic and representation theory methods in quantum information. The position involves no teaching responsibility but teaching one or two courses a year can be arranged based on individual interests

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate – Ames National Laboratory

The Division of Materials Science and Engineering at the Ames National Laboratory is searching for a qualified and strongly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with a diverse team of Staff Scientists, Postdoctoral Researchers, and Students. The successful candidate will conduct collaborative and highly independent research in low-dimensional quantum material, focusing on their characterization by low-temperature scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and other supportive experimental techniques (i.e., multi-probe scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy). The project requires basic knowledge of ultra-high vacuum and cryogenics. Prior experience in experimental research in two-dimensional materials and interfaces and their atomic-scale scanning tunneling spectroscopy will also be advantageous. The work will include developing, planning, and performing low-temperature SPM experiments, critically analyzing results, performing optimization to improve outcomes, and generating reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Research Associate – Clinical Veterinary Toxicology

The position provides interested veterinarians with a solid, broad base in toxicology through diagnostic casework, field investigations, course work, seminars, teaching, and research. The person in this position will gain clinical and applied research experience, while working with clients of the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, ISU Veterinary Field Services unit, and ISU Food Animal and Camelid Hospital. The primary roles of this position are to provide high-quality diagnostic coordination of toxicology and nutrition-based cases, conduct applied research, and to assist in the instruction of veterinary students within the ISU CVM core curriculum and the department’s professional program. Responsibilities also include communication with laboratory clientele and performance of field investigations.

 

The goal of this position is to produce a well-trained, board eligible toxicologist that functions effectively in a variety of capacities that ensure human, animal and environmental safety and who are qualified to pursue careers in academia, industry or government. This position will allow the individual to pursue board certification as a veterinary toxicology Diplomate with the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology (ABVT) and/or a graduate degree (MS or PhD). The candidate is expected to publish applicable research, case studies, or case series to support the board certification process. The individual selected for this position will be formally and informally trained in the clinical veterinary toxicology with the latest tools and techniques associated with analytical diagnostics while also learning appropriate treatments and mitigation strategies associated with poisonings to support veterinarians and producers in the United States.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate – Ames National Laboratory

The Division of Chemical & Biological Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral associate with a background in synthetic chemistry to develop new organic radical-based probes for solid-state dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP)-NMR spectroscopy. The chosen candidate will join a large multidisciplinary team consisting of researchers from both Ames National Laboratory and Iowa State University, as well as other national laboratories and universities. The successful candidate will be responsible for synthesizing new organic-radical based probes for DNP- enhanced solid-state NMR spectroscopy seeking improvements in both sensitivity and operational complexity compared to conventional NMR or DNP-NMR.

 

Synthetic space will be in the new Hach Hall facility at Iowa State University, in the laboratory of Prof. Arthur Winter, which is fully equipped for modern organic synthesis (see thewinterlaboratory.com), and maintains access to a Bruker pulsed VT-EPR spectrometer with in situ capabilities. The research team also includes experts in solid-state NMR spectroscopy and dynamic nuclear polarization, with priority access to a laboratory with two solid-state dynamic nuclear polarization (9.4 and 14.1 T) spectrometers. The successful candidate will collaborate with other scientists in the Division of Chemical and Biological Sciences and the Division of Materials Sciences and Engineering for additional characterization needs.
