(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Research Associate in Cellular Agriculture

The recently funded EPSRC Sustainable Manufacturing Hub ‘CARMA’ (Cellular Agriculture Manufacturing Hub) has the vision to transform food production, transitioning to an environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable model in which novel cellular agriculture (cell ag) manufacturing systems complement traditional food production. Cell ag will enable the manufacture of staple foods, such as meat and palm oil, without the environmental and land impacts of traditional farming and associated ethical issues. This role is one of a network of researchers across five universities, and part of a wider international network of like-minded academic institutions and companies.

Deadline : 18 November 2024

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Research Associate (fixed-term)

We have an exciting opportunity to work on new synthetic methodology for the synthesis of valuable amine-containing building blocks using photoredox catalysis in continuous flow.

You will be working as part of a team under the supervision of Dr Alex Cresswell to develop flow-based methods for the synthesis and functionalisation of simple, readily available amine starting materials.

We will apply these new processes to the synthesis of pharmaceutically-relevant targets and will gain fundamental understanding of the systems through mechanistic analysis.

As a Research Associate, you will help lead the research of a motivated team of chemists.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate (fixed-term)

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has become one of the essential characterisation techniques in chemistry.

However, paramagnetic molecules are often discarded from NMR characterisation as analysis of their NMR spectra is deemed to be too complex.

While there have been significant advances in the theoretical understanding of paramagnetic NMR (pNMR) spectra, there is still a huge gap between theorist and experimentalists as most of the computational approaches are not translated into tools accessible for inorganic chemists to analyse their paramagnetic metal complexes with NMR.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate – Ionospheric Radio Propagation

We are seeking Research Associates to study large-to-small scale ionospheric irregularities by utilising new evidence from EISCAT_3D together with evidence from any other relevant datasets as well as to model and characterise propagation disturbances induced by ionospheric irregularities on radio signals (for example, satellites and radio objects).

The NERC-funded FINESSE project will exploit a new and unique (also NERC-funded) incoherent scatter radar system, EISCAT_3D, located in northern Scandinavia and capable of 3D imaging of the ionosphere.

The UK along with the rest of the world is becoming increasingly dependent on technological systems, such as satellite telecommunications and satellite navigation, that are at risk from adverse space weather conditions. This risk manifests through plasma instabilities in the ionosphere which originate electron density irregularities that induce propagation disturbances on radio signals such as from GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems).

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Atmospheric Dynamics

We are seeking a Research Associate to study how the lower and middle atmosphere drive and control the dynamics of the Earth’s upper mesosphere, lower thermosphere, and ionosphere (MLTI), a critical boundary region linking the atmosphere below and space above! You will primarily focus on the role of atmospheric gravity waves in this driving.

The MLTI is by far the least-understood part of the atmospheric system, and our knowledge of how it varies over time and space is very limited. You will support the NERC-funded DRIIVE and MesoS2D projects, two major projects aimed at understanding this complex atmospheric region. Both projects are multi-institution programmes combining novel observations and cutting-edge atmospheric models to characterise and understand the MLTI system.

About  The University of Bath, England – Official Website

The University of Bath is a public research university in Bath, England. It received its royal charter in 1966, along with a number of other institutions following the Robbins Report. Like the University of Bristol and University of the West of England, Bath can trace its roots to the Merchant Venturers’ Technical College, established in Bristol as a school in 1595 by the Society of Merchant Venturers. The university’s main campus is located on Claverton Down, a site overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath, and was purpose-built, constructed from 1964 in the modernist style of the time.

In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, 40% of Bath’s submitted research activity achieved the highest possible classification of 4*, defined as world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour. 92% was graded 4*/3*, defined as world-leading/internationally excellent. The annual income of the institution for 2022–23 was £362.9 million of which £44.8 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £356.8 million.
