PhD position summary/title: Field Archaeologists 2024
The University of Stavanger invites applicants for field archaeologists to the Museum of Archaeology, Department of Cultural Heritage for the season 2024. As a field archaeologist at UiS you will get the opportunity to excavate archaeological sites in a region known for its rich cultural heritage. Findings from archaeological excavations are used as a basis for the museum’s archaeological research and dissemination.
The work involves archaeological excavation and documentation in various parts of Rogaland County on various types of projects from all periods (for example Stone Age settlements, settlements from Bronze- and Iron Age, as well as grave sites). In 2024, the Museum of Archaeology has several exciting projects on the horizon. We will investigate interesting Stone Age sites as well as settlement traces from the Bronze and Iron Ages. The fieldwork season is expected to last for approximately three months, with the possibility of extension for new incoming projects.
Museum of Archaeology are focused on offering as long and continuous employment contracts as possible. The daily place of work is the place of excavation in the field. The employment may include projects in various locations in Rogaland County, hence the applicants must be prepared to work and live in different locations during the season. The positions are externally financed.

The University of Stavanger is a university located in Stavanger, Norway. UiS was established in 2005 when the former Høgskolen i Stavanger received university status. It had about 11,000 students and 1,370 administrative, faculty and service staff in 2017.
