Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Radar Meteorology
Are you a talented researcher ready to make a real impact on understanding hail hazards in Western Europe? We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to play a leading role in an AXA Research Fund supported project, focusing on France, Switzerland, and Northern Italy. You will contribute directly to two key objectives: creating the first complete radar-based hail climatology for the region, mapping hail swaths for individual events over a decade of observations, and designing, developing, and training geostationary satellite-based hail retrievals. Your work will provide critical insights into hail hazards and support improvements in forecasting and risk assessment.
Throughout your appointment, opportunities will become available to gain some teaching experience and to supervise and mentor research degree students. The successful applicant will take a leadership role in research projects funded by a NHMRC Synergy and Investigator Grants and will play a central role in the organisation and administration of the relevant project(s) within Professor Paul Hodges’ research group. Developed with a national and international team of experts in pain science, the projects encompass the development and oversight of major cohort studies of individuals with pain. This full-time, fixed-term position for two years is part of the Queensland Quantum Decarbonisation Alliance (QDA) — a major collaboration between leading Queensland universities and partners, including CSIRO and PsiQuantum. The QDA is focused on advancing quantum technologies to support decarbonisation and clean energy goals.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of precision atomic many-body methods for multi-valence-electron atoms, with a focus on transition metals of interest for spin-crossover metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The applicant will be involved in the development of classical and hybrid classical-quantum algorithms for treating the correlations.
