Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Resources for Greenhouse Gas Removal
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral research associate to work on a our greenhouse gas removal research. This post is part of a large consortium project to explore the feasibility of enhanced weathering. The PDRA will work with project partners to make fundamental insights into the feasibility of a novel method to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Particularly, the postholder will explore national and international inventories of appropriate rock, their potential for extraction and processing, and what opportunities could be exploited in the short or long-term. Experience in spatial analysis, map development, or resource inventory creation is essential. There are also opportunities to participate in our other projects in CO2 capture, utilisation and storage, and negative emission technologies (https://rccs.hw.ac.uk).

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate/Fellow in Perception and Machine Learning for Marine Robotics
The Project Vision is to develop a coherent framework that enables humans and machines to work as a team by establishing and maintaining a single shared view of the world and each other’s intents through transparent interaction, robust to a highly dynamic and unpredictable maritime environment. We aim at removing workers from harsh and extreme environments to replace them with teams of smart robots able to do the ‘dirty and dangerous jobs’, collaborating seamlessly as a team with each other and with human operators and experts on-shore. In this new world, remote data collection, fusion and interpretation become critical, together with the ability to generate actionable decisions from this data, sending remote robots to perform actions autonomously.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Computational Chemistry
This is an ambitious project in which high-level computational chemistry in the Macgregor Group at Heriot-Watt University will run in parallel with sophisticated organometallic chemistry, catalysis, mechanistic and structural studies carried out by a second PDRA position held in the Weller Group at the University of York. The aim is to develop our work on the structure and reactivity of s-alkane complexes of Rh and Co to design new solid-state catalysts for alkane valorisation (e.g. alkane dehydrogenation, alkene hydromethylation). Our solid-state molecular organometallic (SMOM) chemistry aims to unite the selectivity of homogeneous organometallic chemistry with the simple separation science associated with heterogeneous catalysis.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in novel high-temperature superconducting quasi-1D systems
The successful candidate for this position would work in close collaboration with the PI and other group members on the basic theory of novel high-temperature superconducting quasi-1D systems. Within that context, work in this position will focus on studying the impact of single-electron tunneling on the superconducting properties of a network of quantum wires with intrinsic electron pairing. Carrying out the project will entail working with and further developing a custom hybrid code fusing DMRG and DMFT methods. The position requires a researcher with a strong theoretical understanding and a background in numerical many-body physics, specifically in both matrix product state-based techniques (DMRG, etc.) DMFT. A working knowledge of the theory of strongly correlated quantum systems and superconductivity in particular is essential.

About Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom – Official Website
Heriot-Watt University (Scottish Gaelic: Oilthigh Heriot-Watt) is a public research university based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was established in 1821 as the School of Arts of Edinburgh, the world’s first mechanics’ institute, and subsequently granted university status by royal charter in 1966. It is the eighth oldest higher education institute in UK. The name Heriot-Watt was taken from Scottish inventor James Watt and Scottish philanthropist and goldsmith George Heriot.
Known for its focus on science and engineering, it is one of the 39 old universities in the UK comprising the second cluster of elite universities after Oxbridge.
Heriot-Watt was established as the School of Arts of Edinburgh by Scottish businessman Leonard Horner on 16 October 1821. Having been inspired by Anderson’s College in Glasgow, Horner established the School to provide practical knowledge of science and technology to Edinburgh’s working men. The institution was initially of modest size, giving lectures two nights a week in rented rooms and boasting a small library of around 500 technical works. It was also oversubscribed, with admissions soon closing despite the cost of 15 shillings for a year’s access to lectures and the library.
The School was managed by a board of eighteen directors and primarily funded by sponsors from the middle and upper classes including Robert Stevenson and Walter Scott. It first became associated with the inventor and engineer James Watt in 1824, as a means of raising funds to secure permanent accommodation. Justifying the association, School Director Lord Cockburn said:
