Postdoc in Network Management and Localization at Saint Louis University

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).

 

This position is funded by a collaborative project funded by the Taylor Geospatial Institute (https://taylorgeospatial.org/). The title of the project is: “Rethinking Multimodal Localization Systems at Scale in Challenging Scenarios“. The project aims to advance research in the field of network-based localization by looking at GPS alternatives, e.g., but not limited to, 5G networks, by harnessing the potential of multimodal approaches. Examples of solutions would explore the synergy between Open-Radio Access Networks (ORAN), LiDAR Cameras, and smart access points equipped with multimodal antennas to enhance localization accuracy and scalability. 

 

The initial appointment is for one year and can be renewed for the second year contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance evaluation. The postdoc candidate is expected to catalyze collaborations among the PIs and will be jointly supervised by Drs. Flavio EspositoWei WangNan Cen (Computer Science at Saint Louis University), and Dr. Klara Nahrstedt – Professor and Chair of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).

We study the dendritic cells required to mount adaptive T cell responses in the context of tumors and autoimmunity to better understand tumor evolution and identify novel therapeutic strategies that can improve patient outcomes. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc Fellow

An immediate postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Gucan (Gabriel) Dai at the Edward A. Doisy Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Saint Louis University School of Medicine. We are seeking candidates with a solid publication record in biophysics and biochemistry, specifically in the field of ion channels or membrane proteins. Prior experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology or fluorescence cell imaging using advanced fluorescence microscopy techniques is highly preferred.

The Dai lab focuses on investigating the fundamental mechanisms underlying ion channels of excitable membranes, employing a multidisciplinary approach that combines structural biology, chemical biology, genetics, fluorescence microscopy, and electrophysiology. Notably, our lab is equipped with a state-of-the-art frequency-domain fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy, which is the only one of its kind in the state of Missouri.

We are currently pursuing research directions summarized below:

Investigating the voltage-sensing mechanisms of voltage-gated ion channels that play a crucial role in various diseases such as chronic pain, cardiac arrhythmia, and epileptic seizures. Key techniques for trainees to learn include patch-clamp fluorometry (PCF), Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), as well as the application of fluorescent noncanonical amino acids (ncAAs).

Elucidating the mechanisms involved in the lipid-mediated regulation of ion channels and the dynamics of lipid membranes, which are critical factors in inflammatory and neuropathic pain, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and viral infections. Additional techniques relevant to this research direction include whole-cell fluorometry, calcium imaging, TIRF microscopy, and fluorescence lifetime imaging.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Cancer Research

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Amina Mohammadalipour at Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO. Alipour lab combines biophysics, mechanobiology, structural biology, membrane proteins, and genetics to understand the fundamental mechanisms underlying cancer cells’ rheological properties.

 

Past experiences with cell culture, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and live imaging are required. Experiences in micropipette aspiration, AFM, flow chambers/microfluidic devices, Western blotting, and PCR are preferred but not required.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Fellow, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Medical Genetics

The candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team that uses cell biology, protein engineering, biochemistry, human immunology and molecular biology techniques to understand lysosomal dysfunction in rare genetic disorders. The successful candidate must be highly motivated with extensive experience within one or more of the following areas: single cell sequencing, cell culture, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, organelle, and cell/molecular biology, while experience with advanced imaging techniques is advantageous. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in lysosomal biology.  The candidate is expected to conduct independent lab work and have a strong record of scientific productivity.   He or she should be able to think critically about complex problems and contribute to a team-working environment to advance research projects.

 

The Montaño laboratory is collaborative and supports diversity. The candidate will be responsible for working with other researchers, graduate, and undergraduate students in the lab and participate in maintaining a strong lab culture within the research group.  

 

The job requirements include a Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or other relevant scientific field and from zero to four (0-4) years of post-doctoral experience.
