(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Research Fellow in Group-IV Lasers and Detectors on Si Platform

We seek a Research Fellow to join a collaborative EU+UKRI funded project. This exciting position will give you the opportunity to work at the forefront of our rapidly growing field. You will focus on the design of group-IV SiGeSn heterostructures and multiple quantum well (MQW) structures, modelling of material parameters, carrier transport and optical gain in lasers, and also on photodetectors. You will use both the previously developed codes for electronic structure and gain, and upgrade them, and make new codes for transport.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Chemical Biology

The post is associated with a major £1.5 million collaborative research programme, funded by the EPSRC “Autonomous Phenotype-Directed Molecular Discovery”.  This programme aims to automate the discovery and optimisation of bioactive small molecules in a way that is driven by their phenotypic effects in cells alone. The programme as a whole involves development of a data flow to enable phenotype-directed molecular discovery, identification of biologically relevant, yet synthetically accessible space, and development of chemical probes and their application for biological discovery. This post will lead on discovering, validating and applying chemical probes.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow First 1000 Days, Yorkshire

We are recruiting two Research Fellows/Senior Research Fellows to work on the ‘First 1000 Days, Yorkshire’ project, a transformational programme of work to improve the long-term development and life chances of children born into some of Britain’s most disadvantaged communities. Funded by a substantial donation from an individual donor, the project will harness expertise from research groups across the University and work with a range of regional and international partners. This programme has differing workstreams that represent a holistic approach to the crucial first 1000 days of a child’s life. The aim for these work streams, is to develop an overarching intervention that may influence and inform national policy, especially around how supporting early parenting can impact language and cognitive development, healthy behaviours, and support for disabled children and families. Demonstrating the value of the intervention will be critical to the long-term impact of this work.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Assistant in Palaeobiology

You will be a key member of the NERC funded project “Ecosystem Recovery Following the Permo-Triassic Mass Extinction” and will work with a large research team to explore ecological dynamics across the most catastrophic extinction event in Earth history. Working as a palaeobiologist, you will build data sets and analyse extinction and recovery patterns across the extinction event via the implementation of existing quantitative tools to reconstruct food webs and analyse community structure. As part of a multidisciplinary team you will be using synchrotron X-ray scattering techniques to study 3D hierarchical mineralized tissue structures in dental enamel affected by Amelogenesis Imperfecta.
