(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc position in computational mathematics and data science

You will develop methods, based on computational geometry, to generate spatial information of nanoparticles on irregular 2D surfaces in 3D space.

One powerful experimental method to qualitatively probe spatial organization of nanoparticles in porous materials is electron tomography, whereby 3-dimensional images (tomograms) can be generated. One of your main goals will be to design methods and tools to provide quantitative information of nanoparticle spatial distributions in these tomograms.

Questions that may be explored during your postdoc include:

  • What are efficient machine learning strategies to identify large ensembles of nanoparticles in tomograms (i.e., to identify nanoparticles on irregular 2D surfaces in 3D space)?
  • What are appropriate descriptors of spatial distribution in the field of materials science (e.g., Voronoi tessellations, particle-particle distances, etc.)?
  • What are appropriate algorithms for efficient quantification of spatial distribution in electron tomograms?

Deadline : December 1, 2025.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc position in heterogeneous catalysis

Your research will focus on developing heterogeneous catalysis of vapor phase reactants. The goal is to study vapor phase reactions of high boiling point liquids where the use of vapor phase enables chemistries that are not possible in the liquid phase. The use of vapor phase in heterogeneous catalysis can enable new chemistries because:

  • Vapor-phase processing increases reactant diffusion rates by several orders of magnitude compared to liquid-phase.
  • Concentrations of reactants in the gas / vapor phase are not limited by solubility in liquid as is the case for example with H2 in aqueous phase during hydrogenation reactions.

Questions that may be explored during your postdoc include:

  • How do reaction mechanisms differ in vapor phase compared to liquid phase?
  • Can we design a reactor set-up that enables high-throughput vapor-phase processing of high boiling point liquids?
  • Will vapor pressures of reactants and products be sufficient to allow vapor-phase processing?
  • Will thermal stabilities of reactants and products be sufficient to allow vapor-phase processing at temperatures that allow reaction to take place?

Deadline : December 1, 2025.
