(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE – Integrative Structural and Computational Biology

Fully-funded postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Prof. Ian Wilson at Scripps Research (http://wilson.scripps.edu) for highly motivated candidates who are interested in immune recognition and inhibition of microbial pathogens. Specifically, we are looking for candidates interested in working on projects focused on structure-based design of vaccine candidates, as well as antibody and small molecule therapeutics against microbial pathogens. Candidates with prior experience in structural biology with interests in virology, immunology, infectious disease, antibody and antigen characterization, and design/development of vaccines and therapeutics, are encouraged to apply. The Wilson laboratory research focuses on crystallographic studies of microbial pathogens, such as influenza virus, HIV-1, HCV, SARS-CoV-2 and P. falciparum malaria parasite. The major goals are to understand how the immune system combats viruses and other microbial pathogens through structural studies using high-resolution X-ray crystallography in concert with other biophysical and chemical biology approaches. We mainly focus on the analysis of antibody responses, definition of neutralizing epitopes, and use of that information to guide design of immunogens as potential vaccines as well as antibodies and small molecules as therapeutics. We also have interest in design of assays to aid in small molecule development against viruses, including influenza virus, in collaboration with chemical biologists and chemists. These projects involve working within multi-disciplinary groups of collaborators at Scripps Research and across the nation to tackle current and emerging global health threats.
