(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in mapping landscapes for improved modelling of permafrost carbon cycle

The northern permafrost region has been projected to shift from a net sink of greenhouse gases to a net source under global warming. However, annual permafrost region budgets of the main greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, and N2O) are highly uncertain. This post-doctoral researcher would work on using improved geospatial databases of permafrost landscapes in to improve assessments of monthly to annual greenhouse gas budgets of the permafrost region for the past decades and for future modeling. The research contributes to the CALIPSO project funded under Schmidt Futures, European Space Agency AMPAC-Net project (www.ampac-net.info/) and assessment of the permafrost region greenhouse gas budgets carried out within the REgional Carbon Cycle Assessment and Processes-2 (RECCAP2) project (www.globalcarbonproject.org/reccap/).

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctor in in-situ-data och remote sensing for soil health assessment

Healthy soils are the basis for food production, viable ecosystems and functional biogeochemical cycles. From a global perspective, loss of soils and decline in both soil fertility and soil carbon content are major problems. Problems that also contribute to increased emissions of greenhouse gases. The European Union (EU) is strongly committed to developing sustainable agricultural practices to improve soil fertility across Europe. The Department of Natural Geography, Stockholm University is a partner in the EU project AI4SoilHealth (https://ai4soilhealth.eu/) which started on 1 January 2023. Within the project, Stockholm University is responsible for developing in-situ tools for observing and monitoring soil health, including combine different data types and develop a rapid soil health assessment tool that other partners will implement in a mobile app.

(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in ocean and fjord modelling with focus on the northern Greenland ice sheet margin

While continued ice loss from the Greenland Ice Sheet during the 21st century now is a certainty (IPCC report 2022, Working Group 2), quantifications of future ice loss and sea-level rise are afflicted with large uncertainty stemming mainly from the lack of in-situ observations. This is hampering data-validated parameterizations of numerical models used in simulating future sea-level scenarios. This project focuses on the marine environments along the northern Greenland ice sheet margin, which are of key importance for future sea-level rise as they host some of the last remaining floating, and calving, glaciers’ tongues.
