(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Research Fellow in Computational Chemistry and AI

Are you interested in developing interpretable AI models for the next generation of green syntheses? Do you have experience in AI/Machine Learning, or computational modelling of organic reactions? Do you want to work in a highly interdisciplinary, at the heart of one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?

The switch from traditional organic solvents, many of which are hazardous, volatile or non-sustainable, to modern green solvents is one of the key sustainability objectives in High Value Chemical Manufacture. Currently, the use of green solvents is often explored at process development stage, instead of discovery stage, leading to re-optimisation, longer development time, cost, and additional uncertainty. On the other hand, selecting the right solvent early may enhance chemoselectivity, avoid additional reaction steps, and simplify purification of the products.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Structural Mass Spectrometry

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in native mass spectrometry or HDX-MS? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

In this project, funded by a BBSRC Pioneer award, you will develop new mass spectrometry tools based on native MS and hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX) to elucidate structure-function relationships of oligonucleotides (OGN). Short DNA and RNA sequences can provide interaction motifs for proteins and antibody-like high-affinity binding (aptamers), but they can also be dynamic and partly unstructured. Recently there has been a surge of interest in OGNs and their derivatives for potential use as drugs and vaccines, but also as targets of pharmaceutical intervention. Currently our insights and toolkit are limited: many sequences are either too small for cryo-EM or too dynamic to easily yield x-ray structures.

(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Cancer Virology and Radiotherapy

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in cancer biology, cancer virology or radiobiology? Are you keen to develop new skills in a range of approaches? Do you thrive, working across disciplines with discovery and clinical researchers? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?
Applications are invited for a CRUK-funded research fellow position, to understand the mechanisms by which the human papillomavirus (HPV) causes anal cancer. This exciting, timely and transformative research project has the potential to change clinical practice in how we treat these debilitating cancers. Together, we will characterise the key cellular factors underpinning the response to radiotherapy in these cancers to identify novel factors for therapeutic intervention. This research project is a collaboration between experts in HPV (Macdonald) and radiotherapy (Sebag-Montefiore, Samson), combining biochemical, genomic and virological approaches to tackle an important outstanding clinical question on the role of HPV infection on the response to therapy. HPV infection is responsible for ~90% of anal squamous cell carcinomas (ASCC) and virus infection is typically indicative of a positive prognosis in contrast to HPV negative ASCC; however, despite this, most patients that do not respond to radiotherapy are HPV positive. Therefore, it is crucial to uncover the molecular mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance to develop smarter, kinder treatments for these cancers. We have already obtained biopsies from patients that have responded to treatment compared with those who have since relapsed or never responded and will perform RNA-sequencing to look for distinct transcriptional profiles. Therefore, this is an active project that requires someone to drive it forward. You will join a vibrant research community within the Faculty of Biological Sciences at Leeds, including LeedsOmics and the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology.
