(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doc on Shaping shoreface sand nourishments to optimise biodiversity

We are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher in our team who has a passion for biodiversity research in coastal environments and who is keen to contribute to designing more eco-friendly shore face nourishments.

Sand nourishment is a widely used coastal management strategy to counteract coastal erosion. Currently, 10 million m3 of sand are added to the Dutch coast annually. These volumes will need to be further increased to offset the expected rates of sea level rise. While adding sand to the shoreface, the local biodiversity will be impacted, however, it also creates opportunities for organisms to colonise the new niches that have become available. Our team aims to establish how nourishments can be best designed to minimise the overall biodiversity loss by optimising new habitat creation for plants and macroinvertebrates both above and below water.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in in vitro and food toxicology

You will work as a researcher (in the research track of the Recognition & Rewarding system of WU) in the field of in vitro and food toxicology to strengthen the Toxicology chair group in the department of Agrotechnology & Food Sciences (AFSG) at WU. The position includes both research and teaching responsibilities. You will be responsible for co-developing and thereby maintaining our group’s strong research position in the field of in vitro  toxicology together with our tenured senior staff.
The Toxicology chair group’s research focusses on the development of next generation risk assessment (NGRA) approaches to characterise hazards, exposures and risks of chemicals in food and the environment. Your research contributes to our focus by developing novel molecular biomarkers of toxicity and advanced in vitro cell models. It is your ambition to translate the molecular perturbations in vitro to clinically relevant health outcomes in humans, also with the help of in silico approaches, and thus help shape the chemical safety assessments of the future.

(12) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doc on genome assemblies of four plant-parasitic species

The Laboratory of Nematology at Wageningen University & Research is seeking a motivated and curiosity-driven postdoctoral researcher to join the genomics team. You will be part of an interdisciplinary and collaborative team consisting of both experimentalists and bioinformaticians. In our research, we investigate various plant-parasitic nematode species that cause severe agricultural damage. We recently obtained funding for this research via an NWO VIDI grant, allowing us to deeply explore aspects of nematode genetics. In particular, we are looking at intra- and inter-species interactions. For this research we already have a vast collection of populations available.

As a PostDoc, you will work on genome assemblies of four plant-parasitic species. Datasets based on cutting-edge sequencing technologies (e.g. PacBio, Minion, Hi-C, but also Illumina sequencing) are available for these species. Your aim will be to generate multiple chromosome-level assemblies for these species, allowing deep exploration of the within-species genetic diversity. Furthermore, you will manage an international network to generate expert-driven genome annotations.
