(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position available: Has the time come for realizing quantum computing for transition metal complexes?

Quantum computing is predicted to become a potential game-changer within the field of computational quantum chemistry, because quantum computing naturally solves one of the biggest problems in traditional quantum chemistry, i.e., the exponential scaling with respect to system size of error-controllable and predictive wave function-based methods. In particular, quantum computing is expected to become of significant importance for so-called strongly correlated systems such as transitional metal complexes. However, several challenges need to be overcome before quantum computing can fully integrate with quantum chemistry. These challenges remain both from a hardware and algorithmic point of view. In this research project, we will focus on quantum computing methods to be run on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) hardware, and consider the development, implementation, and validation of needed algorithmic and error-mitigation strategies to contribute to the further development of quantum computing chemistry. Several recent applications have already shown the potential brought to chemistry by quantum computing implemented on NISQ devices. However, these applications have only addressed smaller test cases, and in particular organic molecules.  The real power of quantum computing chemistry is for strongly correlated systems which has yet to be addressed. In this research project the candidate will exactly focus on strongly correlated systems, e.g. the challenging case, both from a quantum and classical computing point of view, of transition metal complexes. The candidate will hereby develop, validate and extend current possibilities within quantum computing chemistry towards real chemical systems of relevance, and aim to illustrate quantum advantage for this class of strongly correlated chemical systems.

(12) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc for research project A Constrained Concept of Health Inequality

The Department of Design, Media and Educational Studies (Philosophy Section), invites applications for a 2-year postdoc position on the topic of health inequality and justice. The position is part of the research project, A Constrained Concept of Health Inequality, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and is available from 01-06-2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.

This project aims to develop a normative reconceptualization of health inequality using conceptual engineering. Traditionally, health care ethicists adopt a descriptive account of health inequality and use that as a background condition for determining the scope within which their theories apply. This project, on the contrary, proposes a more integrationist approach where the conceptualization of health inequality is directly tailored to a contractualist account of justice. The project involves collaboration with and offers a research stay at Uehiro Oxford Institute (https://www.uehiro.ox.ac.uk/).

The postdoc will be responsible for the conceptual analysis and be expected to contribute to the project’s development of moral theory. The conceptual analysis aims to develop a novel conceptualization of health inequality as constrained by theory of contractualist justice. The postdoc candidate should have a background from philosophy or adjacent relevant fields. The candidate will be expected to be familiar with health philosophy, health ethics, and conceptual analysis. Experience with conceptual engineering will be an advantage but is not a requirement. The candidate will be given extensive freedom to pursue personal ideas and to develop the postdoc project individually within the overall frame of the project. To be eligible for the position, the applicant must have obtained the PhD in a relevant field after April 9, 2020 (formal requirement of Independent Research Fund Denmark recruitment policy).

(13) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: A postdoc position is available as part of the research project, “Fama in Medieval Denmark (c. 1240-1340): Rumors, Reputation and Public Opinion (FMD)”.

FMD aims to investigate the impact of fama, rumors, and public opinion on politics and society in medieval Denmark, c. 1240-1340. In this time-period, the kingdom experienced political upheaval resulting in power struggles, rebellion and conspiracies. Specifically, parts of the Danish church sought to establish itself as a “state-within-the-state”. Simultaneously the kings aggressively expanded royal prerogatives and power. In the historiography this struggle is known as Kirkekampen (the Church Struggle). FMD hypothesise that fama played a crucial role in the power struggles of the Danish elite as parties sought to construct and weaponize rumors to influence public opinion to make and unmake people’s fama. But fama was not confined to elite power struggles. In the 13th century it penetrated all aspects of society as fama underwent a process of legal institutionalisation. Fama became law.
