The Botero Lab at the Department of Integrative Biology in the University of Texas at Austin invites applicants for a federally funded Postdoctoral Research position aimed at exploring the role of behavioral flexibility on avian responses to climate change.

We seek to recruit a highly motivated colleague with advanced statistical and computational skills and a passion for natural history (taxonomic expertise on birds preferable but not required). The successful applicant will assist in the development of cutting-edge species distribution models and will collaborate with other team members on a variety of related ecological and evolutionary analyses. This project will allow for substantial creative engagement and ample opportunities to help define the course and scope of our investigation. The Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for two separate postdoctoral fellowship programs. These highly competitive institutional awards are open to recent doctorates (degree within the past 5 years) in Earth, atmospheric, oceanic, cryospheric and planetary sciences or allied fields. Appointments are for two years, contingent upon performance. Recipients of this fellowship will join a vibrant community of postdocs, students and faculty where they are expected to pursue self-directed research in any scientific subfield. Assists Dr. Stephen T. Russell with ongoing studies of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) and youth and adult health and wellbeing. Position involves implementation of study design; identification, management and analysis of relevant project data; preparation of written reports; and publications for lay audiences and academic articles. The Center of Energy Economics (CEE), a key research unit within the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG), plays a critical role in advancing the understanding of energy economics, market analysis, and financial valuation across a variety of energy value chains. The CEE’s mission is to support research that addresses both traditional and emerging energy systems, including oil and gas, low-carbon solutions like hydrogen and CCS, and renewable energy technologies. The Center focuses on providing comprehensive economic assessments that span the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors, enabling a holistic view of energy markets and their transitions. By combining expertise in economics, technology, and policy analysis, CEE supports cross-cutting research efforts aimed at informing decision-making in energy investments, market dynamics, and sustainable energy solutions for the future. This position will dedicate 50-75% of time to upstream production modeling and related research for the immediate future, with the remaining focus on other energy economics projects as needed.

This program pairs a postdoctoral fellow with an experienced faculty mentor who has active national research funding, shares a research interest and is able to supervise the fellow’s research training. In addition to conducting supervised research, postdoctoral training will involve auditing advanced coursework at UT Austin and active participation in a UT Austin interdisciplinary center related to the fellow’s research area. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to fill a postdoctoral fellow position at the Bureau of Economic Geology to assist with field experimental design and measurements focusing on detecting geological hydrogen and helium across Texas. The successful candidate will conduct field experiments that will answer fundamental questions about geological hydrogen and helium production from a variety of geological provinces that include identifying sources, migration pathways, reservoirs, and surface expression, as well as developing a framework for quantifying geological hydrogen and helium potential across Texas and proxy locations. This will include using a variety of in situ and remote sensing datasets.

The postdoctoral fellow will be joining a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and will be responsible for the designing, implementation, and interpretation of field experiments/surveys and remote sensing data. The position requires experience including in gas retrievals, geophysics, field measurements, subsurface characterization, and petrology.

The Young Lab at the University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Integrative Biology is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to lead an undergraduate research initiative focused on the genomic basis of complex trait development and evolution. This role is part of the Freshman Research Initiative (FRI) and specifically the EvoDevOmics research group. The Institute for Geophysics at The University of Texas at Austin (UTIG) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position to analyze polar geophysical datasets.  UTIG is one of the three research units of the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. Scientists and students at UTIG conduct expeditionary research in Earth Science in all parts of the world and are also involved in planetary missions and climate modeling. These research projects produce large data sets and require computational analysis and visualization.

One or two Postdoctoral researcher positions are available to work with Dr. Kelly Dorgan at The University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, TX, starting in January, 2025 (negotiable). Research in the lab integrates ecology, biomechanics (including engineering theory and methods), and invertebrate behavior, morphology and physiology with engineering theory and methods, including development of new instrumentation.

Postdoc research will be focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying bioturbation and/or on characterizing the impacts of infauna on deep sea sediment stability. Responsibilities may involve lab experiments and field work on sediments and burrowing animals. The positions are for 1-3 years, with extension past the first year dependent on performance and funding.

Candidates with strong backgrounds in biology or marine science who also have expertise in other sciences (math, physics/engineering, geology, etc.), creative writing or arts, or technical skills (workshop, electronics, etc.) are especially encouraged to apply.

Computational modeling of geophysical processes and analysis of Geophysical data to improve existing and develop new approaches for earthquake source characterization.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a postdoctoral fellow position within the Bureau’s hydro/geology research group (term subject to performance and research program needs/funding) to assist with a new research program assessing Texas water resources and systems. This position will be a key member of a team largely focused on conducting a research program intended to assemble and synthesize a full suite of Texas water resource/system data in order to: (a) assess the impact of historical drought on water resources/systems, (b) consider prospective drought scenario impacts, and (c) evaluate drought risk and resilience. This research program is anticipated to yield significant insights for Texas water resource management and planning processes as well as to provide a strong foundation for further research projects.
