PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Polymeric Materials in Electric Engines
A more sustainable society requires that more and more vehicles are equipped with battery-powered electric motors. For a complete change, the engine power needs to be increased and the reliability and long-term properties also need to be improved. A bottleneck in engine performance, and to achieve higher power, is the properties of the plastic insulation that covers the copper wires and other plastic parts of the machine. During service, the insulation is particularly exposed to high temperature, oxygen, moisture and oil, which leads to component aging through oxidation and / or hydrolysis. A failing insulation leads to corrosion of the copper wire and eventually electrical short circuit.
Deadline : 11.Jan.2022
(06) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: Doctoral students in Data Visualization
This project will develop algorithms, methods, and tools to visually analyze data. We focus on topology-based algorithms due to their powerful capabilities for extracting features. Our main challenge is to formulate these algorithms such that they are fast and efficient. We integrate these algorithms in a modern visualization tool.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in power electronics for control of hydrogen electrolysers
Wind power has grown strongly in recent years and is expected to continue to increase significantly. But it also poses high stress on the power balance of the grid due to the stochastic and uncertain characteristics of wind power. On the demand side, there is a strong trend with significantly more hydrogen electrolysis in mainly the mining and steel industry. Therefore, using surplus wind power to produce green hydrogen is a promising solution to support large industry demand, and electrolyzers can provide system services for wind power integration. In this process, power electronic interface is a key enabler for balancing and utilization of wind power. This project will develop power electronic interfaces and suitable control/optimization mechanisms for electrolyzers to provide efficient system services for wind power integration.
Deadline : 10.Jan.2022
(09) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: Doctoral students in digitalized power grids
With the high penetration of renewables, power electronics and the tightly coupled cyber and physical networks, future power systems will be more complex with stochastics and vulnerabilities. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence, big data and advanced control/optimization technologies provide possible novel approaches to address above challenges. This project will develop a digital model as well as learning based optimization algorithms to achieve stable and secure operation of future power grids. This project is funded by Swedish Research Council.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in fabrication processes for biobased nanomaterials
The project will aim to develop technologies for controlling the assembly of nanofibrils in dispersions by a deepened understanding of the governing physical mechanisms, which will be addressed by investigating how confinement and imposed flow-fields (shear) interact with Brownian motion for nanofibrillar dispersions at various concentrations. The ultimate goal is to provoke “liquid crystalline states” with a highly aligned and ordered nanofibrillar system. The project will primarily be experimental and apply various state-of-the-art techniques, e.g. advanced scattering techniques using synchrotron light to elucidate the physical mechanisms driving and controlling self-assembly.
Deadline : 11.Jan.2022

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in large-scale distributed machine learning
With the development of computing and communication technologies, and emerging data-driven applications, e.g., IoT based intelligent systems, social network analysis and vehicular networks, the volume of data for various learning systems increases explosively along with the number of involving computing nodes. Thus, large-scale distributed machine learning (e.g., federated learning, and alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM)) has been pervasive in our societies and industries.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in experimental fluid mechanics
The doctoral project, which is funded by the Swedish Research Council, is about basic studies of the transition process from laminar to turbulent flow under the influence of free-stream turbulence. The position is experimental, and the measurement campaigns will be carried out in wind tunnels to collect valuable data that cannot be done with today’s numerical simulations. The experimental database will be used by the doctoral student to increase the physical understanding of the complex transition process, which in turn can lead to better transition models.

About KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden – Official Website
KTH Royal Institute of Technology, abbreviated KTH, is a public research university in Stockholm, Sweden. KTH conducts research and education within engineering and technology, and is Sweden’s largest technical university. Currently, KTH consists of five schools with four campuses in and around Stockholm.
KTH was established in 1827 as Teknologiska Institutet (Institute of Technology), and had its roots in Mekaniska skolan (School of Mechanics) that was established in 1798 in Stockholm. But the origin of KTH dates back to the predecessor to Mekaniska skolan, the Laboratorium Mechanicum, which was established in 1697 by Swedish scientist and innovator Christopher Polhem. Laboratorium Mechanicum combined education technology, a laboratory and an exhibition space for innovations. In 1877 KTH received its current name, Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (KTH Royal Institute of Technology). The King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf is the High Protector of KTH.
KTH is the highest ranked technical university in Sweden. It is ranked top 100 in the world among all universities in the 2020 QS World University Rankings.
