We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to study the evolution and genetic regulation of phyllotaxis in the lycophyte lineage in the group of Dr Sandy Hetherington (The Molecular Palaeobotany and Evolution Group) in the Institute of Molecular Plant Sciences. 

We are seeking highly motivated postdoc candidates to join the Swaffer lab and lead a major project addressing how cell size impacts gene expression & cellular signalling. While the significance of cell size for cellular physiology has been appreciated for many decades, we still have a surprisingly poor understanding of the mechanisms that couple the inner molecular workings of the cell to its size. Using yeast and/or mammalian cell lines as model systems, this project will take advantage of the quantitative and interdisciplinary expertise of the Swaffer lab to build on recent breakthrough discoveries regarding how transcription and cell size are coupled (Swaffer et al., Cell 2023).

This is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in which you will work to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cardiac and vascular development and regeneration. Your main role will be to use lab techniques to assess, especially but not exclusively, the role of protein posttranslational modifications in in-vivo and in-vitro models of cardiac and vascular injury. 

This post is fixed-term, full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We expect this role to be mainly based on-site, however, we are open to considering requests for hybrid working that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

This position is affiliated with the UKRI APRIL AI Hub that aspires to develop AI tools to accelerate innovation across semiconductor technologies, novel microchip designs and system architectures – leading to faster, cheaper, greener and overall, more power-efficient electronics. The post-holder will work closely with a team of talented researchers and the APRIL operations team to lead the development of novel AI capabilities, tools and methodologies that can enhance the productivity of engineers in designing, developing and testing advanced electronic devices and systems. More specifically, the post-holder should have experience in building “digital twins” for modelling device/systems performance, with input from automated testing routines. The research spans from automated process for new and emerging semiconductor devices to efficient modelling of complex electronic circuits and architectures. automatically deciphering underlying physical mechanism is emerging beyond-CMOS devices.

The post-holder will have the ability to engage with world-leading experts across AI and electronics both at Edinburgh and in other UK higher education (HE) institutions but also industrial partners to ensure relevance of their Research in addressing state-of-art challenges in electronics.

The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a Research Associate in Single-Photon LIDAR Technology. This Research Associate position will contribute to the project Compact, High-Resolution 3D Vision within the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems (IMNS) at the University of Edinburgh.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate the mucosal immune and inflammatory response during murine infection with the parasite Schistosoma mansoni, focusing on RNA sequencing, multi-dimensional and multi-omics data analysis, and integration of such with cellular immunology readouts.

The specific aim of this position will be to reveal core immune and inflammatory features of the mucosal response to S. mansoni, with a focus on defining the role of macrophages, dendritic cells and CD4+ T cells in induction vs regulation of intestinal and/or pulmonary tissue damage and repair during murine infection with this parasite.  Part of this will involve linking sequencing data with immune readouts, microbiota and metabolic data sets, to identify key mechanisms that promote or regulate mucosal inflammation against S. mansoni.

The School of Physics and Astronomy is seeking to appoint a strong candidate to a full-time, fixed-term research position within the Edinburgh Nuclear Physics Group. 

The appointed PDRA will work in the group of Prof. Marialuisa Aliotta (PI) to conduct research in experimental nuclear astrophysics for the UKRI-funded ERC Advanced Grant “NUCLEAR: NUclear Clustering Effects in Astrophysical Reactions”. The appointed PDRA will support and develop the experimental programme of nuclear reaction studies at surface- and underground facilities. Jointly with the PI, you will supervise PhD students and support the execution of all experimental activities and related data analysis and interpretation. You will also conduct and support R-matrix global fits of experimental data and contribute to the evaluation of astrophysical reaction rates. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nuclear astrophysics as well as a good academic track record and leadership potential in the field. In addition, s/he will be expected to co-supervise research students and to contribute to some teaching. The successful candidate is expected to engage in frequent field trips to overseas laboratories, present their work at collaboration meetings as required, and maintain a good collaborative attitude.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Health Data Science to join our team in the Institute of Genetics and Cancer. In this role, you will develop and apply cutting-edge data science methodologies to complex biomedical data, focusing on patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). You will work closely with our clinical and translational teams to develop predictive tools that can be implemented directly in clinical settings. This is a fixed-term position for 14 months, with the possibility of extension.

The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a Research Associate in Single-photon Sensor Technology for LIDAR. This Research Associate position will contribute to the EPSRC-funded UK Hub for Quantum Enabled Position, Navigation and Timing within the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems (IMNS) at the University of Edinburgh.

This role is UE07 and is available on a fixed term basis for up to 24 months.

A post-doctoral fellow on AI, NLP and financial computing will be recruited for 24 months for assisting with the execution of the project. The candidate will undertake original research in AI-driven Financial Computing, within the School of Informatics in collaboration with School of Mathematics and the Centre for Investment Innovation.

The project RA improves a deeper understanding of potential risks/uncertainties to which firm-based – risk factors are measured, hence unlocking the potential for significant improvements in the fields of finance investment management, and decision-making.  The project will also aim to provide suitable benchmarking methods to evaluate our proposed AI/NLP/LLM models against commonly used and state-of-the-art AI models as well as evaluation metrics.
