We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher on a 2-year, full-time contract to pursue independent research in the domain of language and (digital) space and place, ideally with a link to geography. Possible directions of research include, but are not limited to:
- tracing and modelling the emergence and construction of spaces and places and their various dimensions (e.g. social, interactive, technological) in communication
- investigating the pragmatic dimension of (interactive) communication across multimodal spaces, in particular finding traces of interaction in digital communicative spaces
- modelling the diffusion of linguistic innovation in online media and exploring their relationship to geographic space

The Department of Thoracic Surgery is looking for a highly motivated and flexible postdoctoral research fellow for our research projects into advanced lung diseases, and in particular Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH). In addition to being one of two centres performing lung transplantation in Switzerland, we are the only centre in Switzerland offering the only curative treatment, surgical resection, for patients suffering from this rare and debilitating lung disease. CTEPH is characterized by bilateral obstruction of the pulmonary arteries, resulting in progressive dyspnea and ultimately in right heart failure.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of a series of investigations that focus on the prenatal development of auditory-motor mappings, using existing datasets and will be responsible for developing and carrying out an in utero functional imaging experiment into fetal responses to human speech sounds. In addition to analytical and experimental work, 20% (flexible) will be given over to methods development, with a focus on developing approaches to dealing with in utero artefacts, such as those arising from fetal movement.
