Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc researcher in crystal plasticity modelling
At the Department of Materials Science and Engineering we are offering a postdoctoral researcher position for development and implementation of crystal plasticity finite element method (CPFEM) modelling of complex microstructures in metallic materials under various loading condition. In order to design novel alloys and microstructures for load-bearing applications it is necessary to understand the evolution of local micro/macro-stresses and strains within the microstructures and at phase/grain boundaries is critical. Therefore, we the main aim of the position is to develop and implement microstructure-sensitive multi-scale computational models for prediction of mechanical behavior of complex multiphase microstructures under static and cyclic loading conditions. This work will support ongoing experimental activities on understanding the structure-property relationships of metallic materials. The CPFEM modelling will in particular support experimental studies using single grain mapping (3DXRD) of mechanical behavior of polycrystalline aggregates as well as experimental studies of structure-property correlations under fatigue loading.
The position should be highly interesting for researchers in computational materials science with a desire to deepen their knowledge and expand capabilities in the field of mechanical metallurgy and materials modeling. Furthermore, the postdoc will have excellent opportunity to widen their knowledge in physical metallurgy in general and to collaborate intensively with academic and industrial partners in Sweden and internationally as well as to contribute to large-scale infrastructure (synchrotron facility) research.
Deadline : 11.Nov.2024
(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in X-ray and neutron characterization of metallic material
At the Department of Materials Science, we offer a postdoctoral position in synchrotron light and neutron characterization of metallic engineering materials to increase the understanding of these materials and their processes. In this way, we want to enable green transitions in industry where new materials and process solutions can be designed with the help of the fundamental understanding that is generated. Large-scale infrastructures generating synchrotron light and neutrons enable very efficient studies of material processes in real time during manufacture and use. And real-time studies mean that the understanding of mechanisms that control the behavior of materials can be improved and then used for new material innovations. For example. we work on improving metallic materials used in the electrification of the automotive industry, hydrogen-tolerant metallic materials that are required for the transition to a fossil-free energy system with hydrogen as an important energy carrier, and the design of metallic materials that are better suited for production from recycled materials while maintaining high performance.
So-called in-situ/in-operando and high-throughput measurements are particularly important in this project and the postdoc will both work on developing measurement methodology and data analysis for these types of experiments and also work with the applications, i.e. better understanding of the microstructure and mechanical properties of specific metallic materials. More specifically, the postdoc will work with phase transformations in metallic materials and deformation of metallic materials.
The postdoc position should be very interesting for researchers in materials science with a characterization profile and the desire to deepen their knowledge and expand their capacity in the field of physical metallurgy and material characterization. Furthermore, the postdoctoral fellow will have an excellent opportunity to collaborate closely with academic and industrial partners in Sweden and internationally, as well as to contribute to research at large-scale infrastructures (synchrotron light facilities).

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Trustworthy DevOps for Automated Vehicles
Several challenges remain before larger scale deployment of Autonomous vehicles (AVs). This postdoc project, part of a Swedish national research project, is investigating how DevOps practices can be adapted to support safety critical systems and specifically automated vehicles (AVs). The need to update AVs is driven commercially and by evolving security threats but becomes especially important due to the open environments in which AVs operate. This requires monitoring actual operations and to be able to decide on and perform required updates, while ensuring that such updates and new behaviors do not jeopardize safety. The project addresses the gap between the tradition of DevOps, which is not addressing safety-critical systems, and the tradition of safety-critical systems, which does not address DevOps.
The postdoc position represents a unique opportunity to do research on trustworthy DevOps for AVs. The postdoc is expected to contribute to collaborative research (including with other academic researchers and our industrial partners). There will also be excellent opportunities for experimental evaluation and case studies, something we believe is important. You are welcome to contribute to relevant educational efforts, especially in formulating and supervising project-related MSc thesis projects and supervision of involved PhD students. Other teaching engagements would also be possible depending on your interests.
As a candidate, we believe that you have a strong basis in software engineering but also other backgrounds and competences can be relevant for the position. We are open to different profiles and directions for the position as outlined in a very recent position paper.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in fluid mechanics and heat management
Cheaper access to space provides societal benefits in the form of increased equality globally. Effective heat exchange is crucial to many industrial sectors to reach global climate goals. Additively manufactured (AM) metallic components of relatively complex shapes ultimately may result in a cheaper component. Raw surfaces on additively manufactured components differ significantly in structure and characteristics compared to traditional knowledge about surface roughness and its influence on pressure losses and heat transfer is partly unexplored ground. The study is broad and ranges from manufacturing to component design when e.g. various manufacturing parameters such as build direction have a large impact on material structure and surface roughness and in turn have a large impact on hydraulic, strength and thermal design of components. A concentrated project part will be focusing on modeling the effect of surface roughness validated with experiments and linked to surface measurement and manufacturing parameters. On a higher level, manufacturing of AM heat exchangers in a European collaboration will be managed followed by final component testing and evaluation of hydraulic and thermal performance. Cooperation with industrial partners in national and international projects is expected, including e.g. gas turbines, rocket engines and heat exchanger entities. Candidates should have proven background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics and experimental methods.
