Professors Robin Turner and James Piret invite applications for a full-time post-doctoral fellowship position available in the field of bioanalytical Raman microspectroscopy and Raman chemical imaging.  We seek a highly qualified individual with a doctoral degree in chemistry or physics or engineering with an interest in developing process analytical technologies for cell therapy bioprocess applications.  Essential qualifications include experience measuring and analyzing Raman spectra of live or fixed cultured cells using a commercial Raman microspectroscopy instrument and common multivariate chemometric methods (e.g., principal component analysis).  Experience with MATLAB and LabVIEW software applications would be an asset.

The research project addresses the overarching challenge of understanding and characterizing molecular and cellular events associated with the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and/or corneal dystrophies.  AMD is a complex, multifactorial disease in which chronic, low-grade inflammation is thought to play a critical role in disease pathogenesis. While treatments exist for the exudative (wet) form of AMD, there are no treatments for the non-exudative (dry) form but many clinical trials are in progress.  Animal models, cell culture methods and human tissue samples will be used in the research studies. A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Perrin lab for work on dual-isotope theranostic peptides in a multidisciplinary collaboration for new agents for targeted imaging and therapy. For prompt consideration, qualified applicants are preferred to have research skills in synthetic/bioorganic chemistry and have published work related to the synthesis of peptides, and/or organotrifluoroborates, and/or novel metal chelators, and/or bioconjugates. One postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Duong Lab at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry, University of British Columbia. Research focuses on employing membrane mimetics to develop methods for next-generation strategies and technologies for working and exploiting cell surface-exposed membrane proteins. As the pharmaceutical and biotech industries increasingly shift attention to biologics, much more attention is being paid to the prospect of developing biotherapeutics against this class of proteins. However, fundamental challenges in antigen quality and presentation, discovery methodologies, protein engineering, and the pace of discovery must be resolved for the field to advance. The Canadian group in the DarkLight collaboration has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher to join us in a search for new bosons in the mass range from 10 to 20 MeV using the TRIUMF/ARIEL e-linac. The successful candidate is expected to develop AI-based advanced control techniques for the next-generation management of energy systems (such as power network, buildings, microgrid with renewable energy resources) towards the ultimate decarbonization goal. Enabling the distributed management of multiple interconnected energy units is of particular interest. MDRU-Mineral Deposit Research Unit at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, is looking for a postdoctoral research fellow (that has completed their PhD within the last 5 years at the time of appointment) to work on a newly funded 2-year postdoctoral research project (with possibility for extension) supported by 5 mineral industry partners, exploring alteration footprints of hydrothermal alteration footprints hosted within carbonate rocks.
