The candidate will be working on evaluating the overall health effects of COVID-19 vaccines to Danish children. In brief, there is accumulating evidence that vaccines – in addition to protecting against the targeted infections – have broader, non-specific effects on the immune system and alter the susceptibility to a wide range of infections. This implies that vaccines and vaccination programmes should also be evaluated for their overall health effects. This has not happened for the COVID-19 vaccines. For children, who appear to have little to gain from the specific protection against COVID-19, such non-specific effects may be more important for overall health than the specific effects.

SDU has based on strategic sources and funding from Orients Fund initiated a cross disciplinary research and innovation project called the Maritime Research Platform (MRP) aimed at making the Danish and European maritime industry more sustainable and competitive in the global marketplace for offshore energy (wind, oil, gas, carbon capture, power-to-x) shipping and logistics services. The Postdoc project is part of the Independent Research Fund Denmark Sapere Aude project “mayoPV Designing intrinsically stable organic semiconductor ”mayonnaise” blends for high-performing organic solar cells”, which will be done in close collaboration with Prof. Kurt V. Mikkelsen from the University of Copenhagen. The overall project involves collaboration with Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Glasgow, Karlstad University, University of Copenhagen, and Technical University of Denmark. The main goal of the postdoc work will be to apply computational chemistry methods and develop a machine learning model to investigate a large chemical space of synthetically accessible modifications of chosen model molecules and determine their interactions within the active layer blend with other organic molecules.
