The research in Siv Andersson´s group aims to provide a deeper understanding of the forces and mechanisms that drive the evolution of bacterial genomes. The goal of this project in bioinformatics is to study membrane proteins in Planctomycetes, which are bacteria but contain elaborate intracellular membranes. Analyses of membrane proteins from Lactobacillus bacteria isolated from the honeycrop of honeybees may also be included.

We are looking for postdoc with good track record and motivation to identify and solve scientific problems. The person will work within a VR-funded project aiming to clarify structural and mechanistic aspects of how rRNA methyltransferases contribute to ribosome biogenesis and antibiotic resistance through specific recognition of transiently available substrates. This will involve ribosome purification, expression and purification of proteins, characterization with biochemical and biophysical methods, structural studies with primarily single-particle cryo-EM, and possibly single-molecule in vivo tracking.

This postdoctoral position involves participation in the planning and implementation of our research studies that aim to provide scientifically robust answers to several of the current knowledge gaps in the field of menopause research. More specifically, we aim to identify time trends for use as well as risks associated with the specific drug preparations which are used; in parallel, patients and prescribers’ attitudes about menopause hormonal therapy in Sweden will be assessed. Thin film materials are crucial in surface engineering and the various applications keep expanding. Solid-State Electronics is ramping up several new projects centred on highly conductive thin films. The projects are collaborative with partners in industry and academia. The Uppsala role is to develop deposition processes and demonstrate high performance materials utilizing ionized magnetron sputtering. The resulting materials will be used in energy storage as well as in novel electronic devices. The research within this project focuses on the growth of thin films on metallic and semiconductor (silicon) substrates. The main challenge is to control the microstructure of the respective material to tune its performance (such as highly conductive and ductile this films for current collectors or thin superconducting layers with high critical temperature for Josephson junction field-effect transistors). In many cases, the existing PVD techniques do not provide materials with the required quality. Therefore, ionized variant of reactive sputtering, High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering, will be investigated.

A postdoc position in Xingqi Chen’s group is available for highly motivated individuals with interest in single cell biology at the unit of molecular tools at Uppsala University, Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology. Research in this project is to develop state-of-art single cell technology and understand the cell fate decision during human disease. To understand the molecular mechanism of tumorigenesis and design better target therapies for the solid tumor, we need to decipher the single cell spatial epigenetic maps of the solid tumor microenvironment. We will use a novel strategy to develop new technology and decipher the single cell epigenetic profiling for clinically archived samples. 

We are looking for a skillful, ambitious and highly motivated researcher/post-doc to work within Sören Lehmann’s hematological research group in a project on epigenetic studies of leukemia. The aim of the study is to define leukemia specific molecular and functional changes in leukemia cells with a focus on epigenetic mechanisms. This project will improve our understanding on why normal blood cells develop into leukemia cells and how epigenetic changes in the cells can be used as biomarkers and/or as target structures for new and more effective treatments for leukemia. The project includes analyzes of leukemia cells using whole genome sequencing by ChIP-seq, ATAC-Seq, Hi-C and RNA-seq followed by data analysis and validations of key results in wet lab studies including CRISPR-Cas9 editing.

The position requires continuous attendance at the Centre, active participation in seminars, on-going presentation of the fellow’s research and, where necessary, some teaching and supervision of students or other tasks corresponding to up to 20% of the position.

Quantum technology for quantum computing builds on a deep  understanding of the fundamental phenomena underlying the quantum properties as well as of the phenomena limiting the qubit performance. The chosen materials and integration  technology need to offer a real potential of scalability and reproducibility, as in the case of CMOS compatible materials including silicon and CMOS process technology. The aim of our new collaborative European QuantEra project (with partner groups at Leti/CEA Grenoble in France, at Université Paris Saclay in France, and at Energy Research Centre Budapest in Hungary) is to realise and study a Si gatemon qubit, a gate tuneable transmon qubit composed of a Si Josephson field-effect transistor (JoFET) coupled to a microwave resonator. It represents a valid integrable and scalable alternative to fully metallic superconducting qubits.

The Vickovic Lab at Uppsala University is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, team-oriented Postdoctoral Computational Scientist to expand computational efforts in understanding disease mechanisms. We are interested in developing integrative multi-modal data analysis tools incorporating single cell and spatially resolved omics data, imaging data, clinical phenotypes, variants and genotypes. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to work at the intersection of mathematical modeling, omics data analysis, workflow optimization, and resource building. The candidate must conduct research full-time within the framework of the research group’s project, mainly including studies of blood cell formation and immunity in crustaceans. The candidate shall take responsibility for ensuring that the research is of high quality. Supervision of students may occur and the candidate is expected to participate in the joint activities of the research group and also to take responsibility for the research’s documentation and shared equipment.

The development of severe disease because of infection is strongly associated with host genetics. The primary dataset we’re collecting is a combination of Epihealth, Simpler and the Swedish Twin Registry cross-analysed with the Swedish Intensive Care Registry. In addition, we have UKB and CLSA and hopefully SCAPIS. It will be a lot of data munging to start with.

The research group in clinical neurophysiology conducts translational research that focuses on optimizing diagnostics, follow-up and pathophysiological mapping of diseases due to disturbed neuromuscular transmission. The current research project aims to validate circulating biomarkers in blood samples in the autoimmune neuromuscular disease Myasthenia Gravis (MG). Tasks include molecular biology work with methods such as RNA isolation, qPCR, protein analyzes etc. of patient samples. Other duties include compiling data, managing the collection of samples and biobanking as well as statistical analyses. Supervision of PhD students and other students as well as teaching is also included. 

The research group in clinical neurophysiology conducts translational research that focuses on optimizing diagnostics, follow-up and pathophysiological mapping of diseases due to disturbed neuromuscular transmission. The current research project aims to investigate disease mechanisms in the autoimmune neuromuscular disease Myasthenia Gravis (MG) in an in vitro model system of human nerve and muscle cells. Tasks include working with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), molecular biological methods such as immunohistochemistry (microscopy), biochemistry (protein analysis), molecular biology (PCR, qRT-PCR), cellular electrophysiological analysis on multielectrode array. Supervision of PhD students and other students as well as teaching is also included.
