We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled postdoc interested in nanoscience and nanotechnology. More specifically, the research project concerns tunable self-assembled microcavities, Casimir-Lifshitz theory, electrostatics, nanofluidics, and photochemistry. The selected candidate is expected to collaborate with experts in nanofluidics and photochemistry under spatial confinement, with a final goal to enable efficient photochemical processes by using tunable optomechanical microcavities in nanofluidic settings.

This project is part of QuantumStack, a 5-year project funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, with the aim of developing a full software stack for programming quantum computers. The project is integrated with the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), a 12-year, billion-SEK initiative started in 2018 with the purpose of advancing Swedish academia and industry to the forefront of quantum technology, and to build a Swedish quantum computer. Our ambitious goal at Chalmers is to build this quantum computer with 100 superconducting qubits and to apply it to real computational problems that cannot be efficiently solved on a conventional computer. There is no reliable path to a sustainable growth in society’s capability to compute and connect. A key issue is the excessive energy loss caused by communication. In classical datacenters and computers, this energy loss leads to heating and greenhouse gas emissions. In emerging quantum processors, the energy loss prevents scaling up small quantum devices into more powerful systems. We are developing new hardware to address this. This project is part of the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), a 12-year, billion-SEK initiative with the purpose of advancing Swedish academia and industry to the forefront of quantum technology, and to build a Swedish quantum computer. We are members of the Quantum Technology division in the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2). We work with the experimentalists in the Photonics division and the theorists at the Applied Quantum Physics division. Our department hosts the state-of-the-art MC2 Nanofabrication Laboratory cleanroom, the largest such facility in Northern Europe. We have cutting-edge cryogenic, microwave and optical measurement capabilities.

(17) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position in Computational Catalysis and Greenhouse Gas Capture
Reducing atmospheric levels of methane and nitrous oxide, two of the most potent greenhouse gases, is critical for mitigating global warming. However, their chemical inertness poses a significant challenge to natural decomposition and existing abatement technologies.
This project explores the enhanced reactivity at the surfaces of small water nano- and microdroplets to decompose these gases effectively. Combining quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, and machine learning, we aim to:
- Uncover and rationalize the reactivity mechanisms of nanodroplets.
- Optimize the chemical properties of droplets through solvent engineering.
- Explore synergies with heterogeneous catalysis to boost conversion rates.
- Investigate pathways for producing value-added products such as liquid fuels or commodity chemicals.

The position is at the division of Marine Technology, well recognized internationally for our fundamental and applied research to enable the development and improvement of marine technology, such as ships, subsea systems and renewable energy solutions. We support industry and societies world-wide with knowledge, understanding and solutions that minimize emissions from shipping, improve the lifetime and reduce maintenance need for equipment in the harsh ocean environment, and ensure safe operations.
Our activities are related primarily to development and application of numerical modelling, e.g. CFD, FEA, FSI, optimization, ML, but we are also involved in both experiments and real life monitoring to support our findings. The division works closely with the shipping industry in Sweden, research institutes and manufacturers. We host the Kongsberg University Technology Centre in Computational Hydrodynamics since 2002 (previously within the Rolls-Royce group) where both long-term strategic research as well as industrial method development are performed in close collaboration with the engineers at the company. Utilisation and industrial impact of the research are key to this successful long-term cooperation.
