Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: POSTDOC POSITION in Extracellular Vesicle Research in Cancer
The research group of prof. Michal Masařík is a biomedical laboratory dedicated to exploring the molecular mechanisms that drive cancer progression, with a particular emphasis on the tumour microenvironment (TME). The team focuses on the communication networks between cancer cells and stromal components, aiming to uncover how these interactions contribute to therapy resistance, metabolic adaptation, and cancer cell aggressiveness. Our team is actively engaged in the broader EV research community—we are members of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) and co-founders of the Czech Society for Extracellular Vesicles (CzeSEV).
A key theme of our research is the study of extracellular vesicles (EVs) released by cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and cancer cells under both physiological and stress conditions, such as lysosomal dysfunction or nutrient deprivation. Our studies aim to elucidate how the protein and RNA cargo of these EVs changes in response to cellular stress and how such alterations affect the biological behaviour of recipient cells, including their metabolism, migratory capacity, and sensitivity to cell death. Through this work, we strive to clarify the role of EVs in the TME and to identify novel EV-based biomarkers reflecting key processes of tumour progression. Beyond their diagnostic value, EVs hold immense therapeutic potential. Their natural ability to deliver molecular cargo in a targeted and biocompatible manner makes them promising vehicles for drug delivery, immune modulation, and precision oncology.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: POSTDOC POSITION in Primary Cilia Biology
We are seeking a talented and motivated candidate to join our team to pursue the mechanisms and functions of primary cilia. The primary cilium is an antenna-like organelle that has emerged as a fundamental regulator of embryonic development as well as tissue homeostasis. While the complete absence of cilia is considered incompatible with life, even subtle defects in their assembly or function can trigger devastating conditions termed ciliopathies and influence the progression of certain cancers. However, the mechanistic explanation of primary cilia assembly and function, crucial for the understanding of cilia-related defects and their therapeutic targeting, is insufficient.
The successful candidate will join the Laboratory of Cilia and Centrosome Biology (headed by Dr. Lukáš Čajánek) at Masaryk University in Brno. The lab has a long-term interest in revealing the molecular mechanisms of cilia assembly, maintenance, and cilia-mediated signaling, in particular in relation to 1) the components of so-called distal appendages and kinases associated with those, 2) molecular motors controlling ciliary trafficking.
The selected applicant will have access to unique research tools, state-of-the-art methodology, and advanced instrumentation (cellular and animal models, proteomics, gene editing, lentiviral transduction, live cell imaging, super-resolution microscopy, etc.).

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: POSTDOC POSITION in the field of Computational Neuroscience
We are offering an opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in applying mathematical models to the study of the brain to join a newly established group at the First Department of Neurology at Masaryk University.
The goal of our research group is to create robust computational frameworks with which to better understand how information is processed across the vast range of scales observed in neuronal systems — i.e., from the microscopic (individual neuron), to mesoscopic (neuronal circuit) and macroscopic (entire brain regions). This is a timely and ambitious direction of research, as the rigorous physical frameworks that have pervaded all other fields of science and engineering have yet to make their impact on modern neuroscience.
The other main aim of our group is to use such frameworks to create cross-disciplinary bridges between computational and clinical neuroscience. Specifically, candidates should have an interest in applying computational methods to address the identification/intervention of epileptic seizures.
The candidate will have the opportunity to co-supervise incoming PhD students to gain mentorship experience.
As a member of a newly founded team, the candidate will have the academic freedom to pursue their own scientific ideas with a level of independence that would otherwise only be possible via personal research fellowships.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: POSTDOC POSITION in Genetic predispositions to development of hematological malignancies
Hematological malignancies are closely related to various types of somatic mutations in blood cells, which often accumulate during the course of the disease. Recent findings point to the increasing importance of inherited genetic predispositions that influence the development of lymphoid and myeloid leukemias and other neoplasms. They could play a causal role in the development of the disease and be related to its early onset, patient prognosis and the effect of therapy. The description of novel germline mutations as risk factors for disease progression therefore has clear clinical implications and benefits for patients and their families. The underlying biological mechanisms leading to leukemic transformation are specific for each genetic variant and should be further investigated. The most frequent and severe genetic variants predisposing to hematological malignancies will be selected from a novel genome-wide analysis of the Czech/European population analyzed within the Genome of Europe project, which is currently underway in our laboratory.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in lipid nanoparticles in drug delivery
We’re excited to announce an open post-doctoral position in Robert Vacha’s Research Group!
With nearly 10 million lives claimed annually, cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, highlighting the urgent need for more effective treatments. One promising strategy involves mRNA-based cancer immunotherapy vaccines, which require a drug delivery system capable of reliably reaching the cytosol. Developing such delivery systems is challenging: they must ensure cytosolic delivery and therapeutic efficacy while maintaining safety, long-term stability, and compliance with scalable manufacturing standards—including high mRNA loading efficiency and uniform particle size. Current lipid- and polymer-based systems offer distinct advantages, but integrating lessons from both may help develop more effective next-generation carriers. A major limitation remains the incomplete understanding of nanoparticle assembly and disassembly under diverse physiological conditions (e.g., extracellular fluids, endosomal compartments, cytosol).
This project will use coarse-grained molecular simulations, complemented by in-house experimental validation, to gain molecular insights in the controlled system assembly and disassembly. Our goal is to guide the rational design of improved mRNA delivery systems to advance the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy.
