Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:    Research Associate Position for the Project “CLICCS A1 Carbon Dynamics in the Arctic” § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

The research associate will study the impact of nutrient availability, particularly nitrogen, on plant productivity and carbon fluxes in permafrost-affected soils. Of particular interest is the link between nutrient fluxes (e.g. from N2-fixation) and carbon fluxes in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum. This research will be based on a combination of Arctic field studies and controlled laboratory experiments and analysis. Element fluxes between soil, vegetation and atmosphere as well as the impact of microbial processes will be quantified under natural and highly controlled laboratory conditions using stable isotope techniques, incubations of soil mesocosms under a controlled climate, soil chemical and physical analysis and greenhouse gas flux measurements in the field and the laboratory. The fieldwork will be conducted in close cooperation with further researchers in the project.

(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:    Research Associate on Plant Molecular Biology § 28 Subsection 1 HmbHG

The position will be filled to work on a PhD research project on membraneless compartments in plant cells that form upon abiotic stress or in plant immunity. Such compartments may contain RNAs and proteins with intrinsic properties such as prion-like domains that make these proteins prone to form condensates in a process called liquid liquid phase separation (LLPS). The focus will be on proteins, whose recruitment to condensates under certain stress conditions has already been established. By combining methods from biochemistry, and molecular genetics with cell-biological techniques including confocal live cell imaging microscopy and cryo-EM, the structure, function, biomolecular interactions and dynamics of these proteins in the context of LLPS will be studied in plant cells. The goal of this project is to uncover novel aspects on formation, dissolution and function of condensates for plant performance and stress response.
