We are looking for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow to join our interdisciplinary research team work on ciliary proteins implicated in genetic disorders. Funded by the UK BBSRC, you will use integrative structural biology, high-speed atomic force microscopy and other cutting-edge biophysical techniques alongside cell biology methods to investigate the structures of these proteins and study their interactions with binding partners. This will provide a molecular-level understanding of how they contribute to cilium function and how mutations cause disease. 

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research fellow to facilitate the setup up of fit-for-purpose reference laboratories across countries participating in SIOPEN clinical trials. Working with members of the SIOPEN Circulating RNA Committee from 26 countries you will collate the capabilities and needs for each country to perform and adopt RTqPCR based assays to manage children with neuroblastoma. We are seeking a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to join the European research project DEEPVOLC: Forecasting Volcanic Activity Using Deep Learning. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly numerate scientist who will develop deep learning approaches to detect, classify and forecast surface deformation at volcanoes, based on InSAR data from radar satellites. There will be potential to develop research beyond this goal, depending on specific research outcomes or interests.

We are seeking a highly motivated Early Career Researcher to join the Leeds Institute for Medical Research and the Centre for Immersive Technologies at University of Leeds to contribute to our ongoing programming of research on using virtual and augmented reality technologies to improve surgical training and practice.  This position will involve you leading on the development of new research to understand how extended reality technologies can help optimise surgical performance and improve patient outcomes. 

We are motivated to understand how cereal development is regulated by environmental factors. To do this we employ a wide range of techniques rooted in molecular biology and molecular genetics. This role will involve developing and testing hypothesis around the regulation of floral meristems during wheat development and conducting molecular experiments to understand how early floral development is regulated by light and temperature. From these experiments the data will need to be critically analysed and learning from the experiments applied to form new hypothesis and experiments. The role will include detailed developmental analysis of wheat plants, including by molecular experiments, such as expression assays and cloning to understand gene function.

We are seeking a Research Fellow in Process Chemistry to deliver multistep synthesis of substantial pharmaceutical precursors and work on subsequent automated case studies with chemical engineers to demonstrate optimisation of lower cost and more sustainable synthesis of essential medicines. The overarching project aims to develop an Industry 4.0 approach revolutionising the transfer from laboratory to production plant. You will develop the process chemistry routes and synthesis for the scale-up synthesis (~100g) of pharmaceutical precursors (via batch or flow methods) for essential medicine building blocks for the treatment of HIV, and further scale-up case studies on the continuous flow platforms within the IPRD. This will require multistep large-scale synthesis within the IPRD to deliver the material for the optimisation campaigns.

The University of Leeds has an opportunity for you to develop an enhanced gold nanoparticle detection system for more accurate and rapid lateral flow testing for a range of novel diagnostics. Working closely with colleagues from the Faculties of Biological Sciences and Medicine and Health, as well as our industrial partners, SureScreen Diagnostics Ltd, you will be involved in the development of a new range of materials for the detection of Urinary Tract Infections.

Electrostatic charge accumulation in powders and grains, due to collisional and sliding contacts of surfaces of solids, commonly known as triboelectrification, is a nuisance and source of hazards, and at the same time, it has great potential for exploitation, as in the fast-growing technology of Tribo-Electric Nano-Generators (TENG). The former adversely affects manufacturability, due to issues such as downtime, valuable product loss and negative environmental impact, whilst for the latter, the identification of durable and efficient functional materials is highly desirable. The capability to predict triboelectrification tendency of materials provides a great competitive edge in advanced manufacturing across a wide range of industries from food and pharmaceuticals to additive manufacturing, polymers and TENG.  

We are looking for a proactive individual to join our Science and Technology Of Robotics in Medicine (STORM) Lab, bringing their excitement for scientific research in surgical robotics with them.  At the STORM Lab, we strive to improve the quality of life for people undergoing soft-tissue surgery and flexible endoscopy by creating miniature and non-invasive robots. This includes the creation and investigation of miniature capsule-like or tentacle robots to work inside the human body. At the STORM Lab, we are designing and creating soft and compliant robotic devices that can be used within the human body to detect and cure diseases in a non-invasive way.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual with an aptitude in research to support Dr Rebecca Shaw on her ESRC Funded research project entitled ‘Domestic Abuse Service Providers and their Stories’ – an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council via the Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre.  ‘Domestic Abuse Service Providers and their Stories’ is a project conceived in partnership with four charity organisations across Leeds and West Yorkshire who provide support services to both victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. The project seeks to investigate the narratives of these service providers, the challenge being to better understand and contribute – ultimately – to changing the dominant narrative(s) around domestic abuse. We wish to recruit a Research Fellow to join a programme of work to develop and evaluate a new therapeutic approach with adults who repeatedly self-harm. The overall programme of work is called FReSH START: Function REplacement in repeated Self-Harm: Standardising Therapeutic Assessment and the Related Therapy. FReSH START is funded by the National Institute for Health Research through Programme Grants for Applied Health Research. We are currently in the evaluation phase with a multisite RCT and associated process evaluation underway. The post holder will work with a Senior Research Fellow to ensure successful completion of the process analysis, support study site researchers who are recruiting participants to the trial, and facilitate the involvement of our lived experience group.
