Postdoc summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a post-doctoral research associate position in the UNC Proteomics Core Facility (proteomics.unc.edu). (03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate

This full-time position will involve working with a team as well as preparing papers, reports, and contributing to grants, and thus excellent writing and communication skills are required. Essential research skills will include collecting ultrasound data using laboratory equipment and clinical ultrasound scanners, analyzing results, summarizing and presenting findings (lab meeting, meetings with collaborators, conferences, journal publications). The successful candidate will assist with multiple funded projects in the laboratory, with the opportunity to customize their level of involvement based on interests. Experience with MATLAB, LabVIEW and/or other programming skills would be advantageous. Exposure to modern statistical techniques including linear mixed model analysis, machine learning and other large data analytical techniques would be advantageous.

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Acoustics or a closely related field. Prior experience with ultrasound systems, acoustics, ultrasound acquisition and/or ultrasound analysis is not a requirement, but will be beneficial. Experience with human subject research and/or preclinical models is advantageous but not essential. Priority will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience using research programmable ultrasound scanners and a track record of publications relevant to the areas of expertise outlined above.

The successful candidate will assist with multiple diving-related funded projects in the laboratory (sponsored by the Office of Naval Research and the Divers Alert Network research foundation), with the opportunity to customize their level of involvement based on interests. Exposure to modern statistical techniques and large data analytical techniques would be advantageous.

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Physiology, Exercise Science, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field. Prior experience with cardiac ultrasound image acquisition and/or ultrasound analysis is not a requirement, but will be beneficial. Experience with human subject research is essential. Prior experience in scuba diving or freediving field research and/or preclinical models is advantageous but not required. This Postdoctoral Research Associate position will use genetic and molecular biological approaches to investigate the genetic and immunological basis of Campylobacter jejuni induced colitis and autoimmunity. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate

The broad theme of the UNC Center is building the science for effective FDA regulation of and communication about tobacco products disproportionately used by priority populations. The specific project the postdoc will work on uses systems science methods including causal loop diagramming to integrate evidence and expert insights about factors that impact the effectiveness of a flavored cigar ban and simulation modeling to estimate the public health impact of such a ban in a variety of plausible post-ban scenarios among priority populations and the overall US population.

This mixed-methods project includes use of nationally representative surveys, literature reviews, causal loop diagramming, an expert elicitation process, and simulation modeling. The postdoc will take part in study design, implementation, data analysis, and interpretation and publication of study findings. The postdoc will also develop their own research questions regarding tobacco regulatory science and will receive multidisciplinary training and mentorship from senior researchers.

Along with other tobacco control trainees at UNC, postdocs will be able to participate in a journal club, a speaker series, and various webinars. In addition, travel funds will be available to present research.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher

The postdoctoral researcher will coordinate efforts between the UNC PI and school districts across North Carolina and Miami-Dade schools. The candidate will help the PI recruit schools in North Carolina (NC) to participate in a comparative randomized clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness of an elementary school social-emotional learning program. The candidate will work closely with school partners to coordinate training of staff in 12 NC elementary schools, to distribute parent consent forms, and to develop and implement student and teacher surveys. The candidate will also assist the co-PIs in an evaluation of a teacher professional development program in Miami-Dade schools focused on supporting youth with disabilities and bullying prevention.

The postdoctoral researcher will (a) contribute to study design and implementation of research studies; (b) coordinate and carry out trainings and data collections at school sites, © contribute to testing of curricular resources; and (d) contribute to dissemination of project output to academic, higher education, and practitioner audiences

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The primary purpose of this position is to advance the research of Dr. Fitting, a leader in Behavioral and Integrative Neuroscience. As the lab manager, this position is to carry out independent research and train all new undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral lab member. The primary role (60%) is to independently conduct project development, management, and implement and execute research related to the cannabinoid and neuroHIV fields, including behavioral pharmacology studies, in vivo calcium imaging studies, as well as studies that focus on harvesting of CNS tissue, and immunohistochemistry, confocal, and Western blot studies. This also entails conducting literature searches, modify existing laboratory protocols, grant writing, budget development, and seeking out funding opportunities. This work requires previous experience with animal research and behavioral pharmacology and cellular neuroscience and strong knowledge in behavioral assays (novel object recognition, T-maze, locomotor activity), Western blot analyses, stereotaxic injections, in vivo calcium imaging, data science tools, and statistical analyses. In addition, this position entails publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting research findings at national and international conferences.The second role (20%) is to plan and implement research projects including coordinating the development of project scope, goals, work plans, timelines, strategies and assessing progress towards project objectives. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate (Sullivan Lab)

Dr. Patrick Sullivan is a professor in the Genetics and Psychiatry departments at UNC, as well as a professor at the Karolinska Institute in Stokholm, Sweden. The Sullivan laboratory at UNC-CH invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct statistical or bioinformatic analyses of genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic data. We focus particularly on schizophrenia, major depression, and eating disorders. We are deeply collaborative and actively work with many major genetic, psychiatric, neuroscience, and functional genomic groups in the US, Scandinavia, Europe, India, and Australia.

The Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center – Cancer Health Disparities Program (CHDP) seeks applicants for the postdoctoral program. This program provides multidisciplinary training with exposure to a broad spectrum of ideas and mentored collaborative research is fundamental to the development of effective cancer research in areas relating to cancer health disparities. Through its specialized core curriculum and mentored research experience, the CHDP focuses on training that crosses and integrates different disciplines. The flexibility in both eligibility and training allows the CHDP to enhance diversity within the field and, at the same time, provide the understanding and language for unifying that diversity.

Clear expectations of CHDP include: completion of the core curriculum (as tailored to your needs); submission of a grant or development of a grant proposal/participation in a mock grant review, preferably within your two years of fellowship; and participation in fellowship activities. You and your mentor will develop an annual training plan. Drs. Smith and Tate will meet with you and your mentor regularly to review progress and update your plan.
