Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate (Cornell Prison Education Program) – CALS – Global Development – Part-time, 20 hrs/wk
The Cornell Prison Education Program (CPEP) seeks a part-time researcher to plan and execute data collection over three years (2022-2024) to provide for preliminary analysis and evaluation of the impact of CPEP education and reentry services provided to incarcerated students and returning citizens. The researcher will be provided records by CPEP as well as a data harvesting tool developed by CPEP called the Education Justice Tracker (EJT). In late 2022, this tool will also be provided to five additional programs in New York State, and in 2023 it will be provided to five additional states outside of New York. Contingent on negotiated MOUs and data sharing agreements, these partnering programs will provide cases from which to draw comparisons and evaluate the utility of the EJT tool. We want to know whether higher education in prison (HEP) programs that have access to data harvesting tools produce better results than those without.

We study how neurons develop cell type-specific dendrite morphology during normal development and how this process is impaired in neurological disorders. We use a combination of cutting-edge technologies in molecular biology, cell biology, microscope, genetics, and genomics. In particular, we use several novel approaches developed in our lab, including MAGIC to search for novel genes controlling dendrite patterning, CRISPR-TRiM to characterize gene function, LarvaSPA time-lapse imaging to investigate dendrite dynamics, optogenetics to manipulate endogenous proteins in specific dendritic branches, and machine learning and quantitative image analysis to extract dendrite morphological information.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate, Data Scientist – Lab of Ornithology
The goal of the eBird Status and Trends (S&T) project is to use the information collected by eBird to become the go-to source for publicly available high-quality, high-resolution data visualizations, and tools describing where bird populations occur and how they change through time. To translate eBird observations into robust data products we use custom modeling workflows designed to fill spatiotemporal gaps based on remote sensing data while controlling for the biases inherent in species observations collected by volunteers. The workflow generates estimates of species’ distributions and abundance, measures how they change over time, and identifies the features of the environment associated with populations. Leveraging the broad coverage and fine scale of eBird, these estimates are generated with high resolution across global extents making it possible to address a wide variety of important ecological and conservation applications.

About Cornell University, New York, United States – Official Website
Cornell University is a private, statutory, Ivy League and land-grant research university in Ithaca, New York. Founded in 1865 by Ezra Cornell and Andrew Dickson White, the university was intended to teach and make contributions in all fields of knowledge—from the classics to the sciences, and from the theoretical to the applied. These ideals, unconventional for the time, are captured in Cornell’s founding principle, a popular 1868 quotation from founder Ezra Cornell: “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.”
The university is broadly organized into seven undergraduate colleges and seven graduate divisions at its main Ithaca campus, with each college and division defining its specific admission standards and academic programs in near autonomy. The university also administers two satellite medical campuses, one in New York City and one in Education City, Qatar.
Cornell is one of the few private land grant universities in the United States. Of its seven undergraduate colleges, three are state-supported statutory or contract colleges through the State University of New York (SUNY) system, including its agricultural and human ecology colleges as well as its industrial labor relations school. Of Cornell’s graduate schools, only the veterinary college is state-supported. As a land grant college, Cornell operates a cooperative extension outreach program in every county of New York and receives annual funding from the State of New York for certain educational missions. The Cornell University Ithaca Campus comprises 745 acres, but is much larger when the Cornell Botanic Gardens (more than 4,300 acres) and the numerous university-owned lands in New York City are considered.
