Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Temporary Researcher in Space Sensors and Systems
Deep space exploration and especially settling humans on extraterrestrial bodies, such as the Moon and Mars, depend among others on the capability to utilize locally available resources, such as water, oxygen, and methane. To identify, localize and characterize the quantity and quality of these resources, different sensors, both spaceborne and on ground are required.
To map resources several different technologies may be used.
ITS hosts the Centre for Space Sensors and Systems (CENSSS), which incorporates operation of an instrument on the NASA Perseverance rover on Mars. One of the CENSSS activities focuses on neutron and gamma ray detection (GRND) to determine compositions of materials and search for water.
The main task of the researcher will be to derive new applications of the GRND on Earth or Earth orbit. This includes environmental analysis as well as support of the design adaption for a CubeSat and terrestrial rover deployment. Terrestrial deployment serves as a steppingstone for the GRND to other bodies.
Deadline : 8th April 2024

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in Bioinformatics
In the NFR-funded Norwegian Center of Excellence ‘CanCell’ we are interested in developing new methods to reprogram cancer cells. To better understand how the immune system is affected by Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), we are currently developing a multiparameter flow cytometry method to be able to identify the various types of immune cells and cancer cells that are present in bone marrow and peripheral blood of AML patients. The candidate will contribute to the project by developing routines for analysis of large datasets obtained with multiparameter flow cytometry (over 40 cell surface markers). In the second stage of the project, the candidate will use these methods to analyze complex datasets obtained from multiple patients, and correlate this information with various patient characteristics to determine disease progression and outcome.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Hydrology/Hydrogeology
The GroundedExtremes project is a European funded research project that aims to investigate key processes controlling the development of hydrological extremes and the potential for improved groundwater management as a powerful adaptation strategy to both droughts and floods. In GroundedExtremes six postdoctoral researchers will study and compare groundwater dynamics, management and governance across four case studies: Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden.
At the University of Oslo, we are now searching for a postdoctoral researcher with a groundwater data and statistical/physically-based modelling background to join our team. The postdoc will analyse groundwater level observations and related climate and site-specific data to assess the development, duration and recovery of groundwater droughts, their climate drivers, subsurface characteristics, vegetation and water use, as well as effects of ongoing and future global changes. Focus is on drought, but include situations of high groundwater table/head as groundwater can act as a buffer to both flood and drought. We will analyse and compare groundwater dynamics in the four case studies, with a specific focus on Sweden. Emphasis will be on (compound) drivers of groundwater drought across the case studies, including large-scale climate drivers and local scale characteristics, taking into account the importance of wet extremes in the development and recovery of groundwater drought.
We are looking for a person who is interested in interdisciplinary research and enjoys working collaborative within a diverse international group. Additionally, we are seeking a person who is positive to support the project administration and management and engage in joint project activities. The postdoc will be based at the Section for Geography and Hydrology at the Department of Geosciences and will collaborate closely with the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Gothenburg on the Swedish case study.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Human Geography
The position is central within an interdisciplinary Thematic Research Group (TRG), UNRULY SUSTAINABILITY: Unruly Sustainability Challenges: addressing uncertainty in governing energy transitions, funded by UiO:Energy and the Environment. Theoretically, the UNRULY SUSTAINABILITY project examines ‘chaotic’ processes, those without stable probability patterns, to probe material and epistemic uncertainties, or what the project defines as ‘unruly’ processes. Dynamics that underpin energy justice concerns rarely exhibit stable probability patterns. Assuming they do can lead to failed outcomes—like dams bursting or further marginalising vulnerable people. The project aims to generate new methodologies for evaluating how uncertainty shapes energy justice concerns and outcomes of renewable energy projects.
UiO:Energy’s TRGs contribute to their goals of addressing challenges related to energy, climate and environment. The UNRULY SUSTAINABILITY TRG team is comprised of colleagues from University of Oslo representing three different faculties (Social Science, Mathematics, Humanities), along with international affiliate researchers, and an advisory board of international academic leaders.

How to increase Brain Power – Secrets of Brain Unlocked
About The University of Oslo, Norway – Official Website
The University of Oslo, until 1939 named the Royal Frederick University is the oldest university in Norway, located in the Norwegian capital of Oslo. Until 1 January 2016 it was the largest Norwegian institution of higher education in terms of size, now surpassed only by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The Academic Ranking of World Universities has ranked it the 58th best university in the world and the third best in the Nordic countries. In 2015, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked it the 135th best university in the world and the seventh best in the Nordics. While in its 2016, Top 200 Rankings of European universities, the Times Higher Education listed the University of Oslo at 63rd, making it the highest ranked Norwegian university.
The university has approximately 27,700 students and employs around 6,000 people. Its faculties include (Lutheran) theology (with the Lutheran Church of Norway having been Norway’s state church since 1536), law, medicine, humanities, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, dentistry, and education. The university’s original neoclassical campus is located in the centre of Oslo; it is currently occupied by the Faculty of Law. Most of the university’s other faculties are located at the newer Blindern campus in the suburban West End. The Faculty of Medicine is split between several university hospitals in the Oslo area. The university also includes some formally independent, affiliated institutes such as the Centre for International Climate and Environmental Research (CICERO), NKVTS and the Frisch Centre.
The university was founded in 1811 and was modeled after the University of Copenhagen and the recently established University of Berlin. It was originally named for King Frederick VI of Denmark and Norway, and received its current name in 1939. The university is informally also known as Universitetet (“the university”), having been the only university in Norway, until 1946 and was commonly termed “The Royal Frederick’s” (Det Kgl. Frederiks), before the name change.
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in the university’s Atrium, from 1947 to 1989 and will be so again in 2020, making it the only university in the world to be involved in awarding a Nobel Prize. Since 2003, the Abel Prize is awarded in the Atrium. Five researchers affiliated with the university have been Nobel laureates.
