(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in Automated Verification and Debugging of Numerical Programs

The position is part of the ERC Starting grant project HORNET on practically usable automated verification and debugging techniques for numerical programs. These programs are widely used in safety-critical systems, data analysis, weather forecasting, physics, engineering and more, but verifying and debugging their accuracy and reliability today is challenging due to rounding errors and limitations of current tools. One aspect that this project focuses on is accuracy of finite-precision programs with respect to a real-valued (and thus error-free) program specification. Possible concrete research directions that the postdoc can be involved in include automated program verification, specification inference, fault localization, practical usability, etc. in the context of numerical finite-precision programs. The projects typically include both the development of novel techniques, as well as implementations that can be practically used. The postdoc candidate is expected to work both independently and in collaboration with other group members and external collaborators.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher on fungal genomics

Are you interested in working with systematic biology, with the support of competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in sustainable employeeship and offers safe, favourable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University.

The lab focuses on understanding the evolution of genomes and the genetic basis of adaptation in fungi. We recently discovered that many fungi harbour massive transposable elements, named Starships, that mobilize a vast diversity of fungal genes. We have now deciphered how the Starships move within genomes, but a growing amount of evidence suggests that they are also capable of moving between genomes. The main goal of the position is to demonstrate in a laboratory setting the horizontal transfer of a Starship between different fungi. This will be done by genetically modifying model strains so that successful transfers can be screened at high throughput on selective media.

(12) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: WISE post-doctoral position in Artificial Intelligence for Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing (AM), or 3D-printing, has enabled not only a complete freedom-of-design of components, but also the development of alloys with new compositions and with tailored microstructures, potentially allowing for lower material and fuel usage in the case of light-weight alloys, and corrosion rates that are more adequate for use in temporary implants. However, process parameter development for AM is complex, time-consuming and very costly, including high amounts of material and energy waste, and even more so for particularly challenging alloys such as Mg-based ones, which require substantial research efforts. In this project we will develop machine learning models to i) enhance the efficiency of the process development, as well as to ii) develop a better understanding between process parameters and the resulting microstructure, as applied to Mg-based alloys. These alloys are promising for applications in the aerospace and transport industry, as well as biomaterials.

How to increase Brain Power – Secrets of Brain Unlocked

About Uppsala University, Sweden –Official Website

Uppsala University  is a research university in Uppsala, Sweden. Founded in 1477, it is the oldest university in Sweden and all of the Nordic countries still in operation. It has ranked among the world’s 100 best universities in several high-profile international rankings during recent years. The university uses “Gratiae veritas naturae” as its motto and embraces natural sciences.

The university rose to pronounced significance during the rise of Sweden as a great power at the end of the 16th century and was then given a relative financial stability with the large donation of King Gustavus Adolphus in the early 17th century. Uppsala also has an important historical place in Swedish national culture, identity and for the Swedish establishment: in historiography, literature, politics, and music. Many aspects of Swedish academic culture in general, such as the white student cap, originated in Uppsala. It shares some peculiarities, such as the student nation system, with Lund University and the University of Helsinki.

Uppsala belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities and to the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. The university has nine faculties distributed over three “disciplinary domains”. It has about 44,000 registered students and 2,300 doctoral students. It has a teaching staff of roughly 1,800 (part-time and full-time) out of a total of 6,900 employees. Twenty-eight per cent of the 716 professors at the university are women. Of its turnover of SEK 6.6 billion (approx. USD 775 million) in 2016, 29% was spent on education at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, while 70% was spent on research and research programs.

Architecturally, Uppsala University has traditionally had a strong presence in Fjärdingen, the neighbourhood around the cathedral on the western side of the River Fyris. Despite some more contemporary building developments further away from the centre, Uppsala’s historic centre continues to be dominated by the presence of the university.
