The Hazen laboratory uses multidisciplinary approaches to study mechanisms by which gut microbiota contribute to cardiometabolic diseases and related inflammatory disorders. The laboratory is housed within the Lerner Research Institute on the Cleveland Clinic campus. Research programs span from “bench to bedside”, and include mechanistic studies involving genetically engineered microbes, recombinant microbial enzymes, host receptor-microbial-derived metabolite biological responses, animal models of disease, large scale human clinical studies, and both animal model and human interventional investigations. The lab is very well funded and highly productive, with frequent publications in top tier clinical and basic research journals. Our research team has broad expertise and background, and includes both analytical and synthetic chemists, numerous basic scientists (biochemistry, genetics, cellular and molecular biology, physiology) and both translational and clinical researchers. Candidates should be self-motivated individuals with an excellent work ethic and advanced organizational and communication skills. Background in any/multiple of the following would be highly advantageous: enzymology, biochemistry, protein biochemistry, cell-based assays / relevant research, animal models or bioinformatics.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Vijay Krishna at the Lerner Research Institute, Cleveland Clinic to interrogate photon-drug interactions with theoretical and computational chemistry for different healthcare solutions. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of investigators for design and evaluation of novel drug and nanomaterials for prevention and treatment of diseases. Specifically, the position will focus on developing computational models for different drug candidates using high performance computers and quantum computers and validating with experimental studies. This position will include collaborations as well as exchange visits with external partners (IBM and Algorithmiq). Candidates should have Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry, physics or materials science. Successful candidates should have demonstrated expertise in studying photon-molecule interactions using computational chemistry. Special consideration will be given to applicants with additional expertise in developing algorithms for quantum computers.

The Wang Lab is recruiting a machine learning/artificial intelligence postdoc in medical image and clinical data fusion in the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences at Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute. The postdoc will be involved in the development of innovative approaches and applications of computational and machine learning methods, from clinical data set integration to statistical analysis and deep learning. The lab utilizes several open-source programming environments, including R and Python. The goal is to improve phenotypic classification and prediction of treatment outcomes in Patients with cardiovascular diseases. We use large cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI) data and clinical EHR data sets to advance therapies and our understanding of diseases.

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the Yu lab which focuses on cancer stem cell biology and mechanisms of therapeutic resistance at the Cleveland Clinic. Cancer stem cells reside in different niches including the perivascular and hypoxic niches. Our laboratory is interested in uncovering molecular mechanisms by which stemness in maintained in these different niches. We focus on glioblastoma, a primary brain tumor, and brain metastases. To this end, we utilize a combination of molecular biology and mouse modeling approaches. Because Dr. Yu is a physician-scientist, we aim to translate our research to the clinic. The Messer laboratory works at the interface between the microbiota and host tissues to understand how healthy host-microbe relationships develop and how they break down in disease. We study infectious and inflammatory diseases at the gut and lung mucosal barriers and investigate how disease that starts at the barrier radiates throughout the body. Our philosophy is that people perform their best work in a supportive environment that challenges them to grow while they are interested and engaged by their work. The ideal candidate for this position will have completed, or be close to completing, a Ph.D. degree (or clinical equivalent (M.D., D.V.M, D.D.S., etc.) with at least one year of research experience). Additionally, competitive candidates will have experience in animal and cellular models of infectious or inflammatory disease and microbiology. Experience in flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, techniques to interrogate complex microbiota, and protein-protein interaction assays is desirable, but not required.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow with expertise in the areas of bacterial molecular genetics, synthetic organic chemistry, or infectious disease biology to investigate metabolites driving microbe-host interactions in the microbiome. Bacteria use small molecule chemicals to mediate these interactions and the genetic information required for their production is typically encoded in one physical location of the bacterial chromosome, in biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). Using in silico techniques, we identified several widespread families of BGCs that we are now characterizing experimentally, prioritizing on the BGCs predicted to be involved in modulation of community composition or interaction with the host immune system. Our research will contribute to a better mechanistic understanding of the microbes that live in our body, leading to the discovery of druggable small molecules, new targets for antibacterial therapy and beneficial bacterial strains that can be employed for intervention therapies.
